Default things others bowlers say that make you say "huh"

friday night, me and the mrs went glow ball bowling. did not think I will do well with the black light, strobes, and lasers. but I did. Went to pay, the guy that was working the counter bowls in the same league as me. 210 avg bowler, 20mph speeds avg, turns to me ask me how I did. I said "avg". turns and says " I never bowl during open bowling, you waste too many good games". my jaw drops, then just turn around and leave. think "huh"

I bowled him on thursday night, I over heard him saying to his partner " I don't get when I am throwing at 20mph, how can I leave a split". shack my head, and think "huh".

The sad thing is guys that average 200+ that know nothing about the game are way too common. Performance does not always indicate knowledge

But don't you wish YOU had that 200 plus! Knowledge is one thing, say a GREAT FOOTBALL coach, or even a bowing Coach,,, like Rob, but to have that 220 or higher average,,, well it goes beyond knowledge, its a Gift!

Hey I wish I had the Gift! Iceman doesn't have a 200 plus average. I know guys that have been bowling for many years, and practice a bunch,, but don't have that 200 plus average.

(performance does not always indicate knowledge), and the point of knowledge is for what,,,, Better Performance,,, if you have a Great Average, on both house and sports leagues, (like I know several people that do), and have never been coached, or even practice that much many of them, how important is knowledge, if you don't have the 200 plus aveage.

Knowledge is not the most important part of being a great at most sports, but the Gift is! Example a 100 yard dash in track and field! Gifted will beat the best every time, due to the fact that the ability to run that dash in under 10 seconds is the GIFT that person has.

Knowledge is a GOOD thing, but does not guarantee success in any sport!

What would you rather have knowledge, or a 220 plus average? I sure your answer will be BOTH! LOL If you have a High Average, you must have a degree of knowledge to be at that level,,,Right? So maybe some knowledge is important for sure, but the GIFT is what makes you a star!!!

But,,, don't you wish you had the GIFT Amyers,,,, I know I do!!! All the knowledge and coaching in the world will never get most bowlers to that 220 and above goal!

Just my opinion, based on Scientific research!

You are correct I wish I did have both but I will never get there on physical ability alone. Truth is I am a klutz, lack coordination, and have terrible balance. I am capable of falling over just standing up. The best path to victory for me is to outthink and have better concentration than the guy I'm bowling against. I do my best to make up for the physical limitations to my game by having as much knowledge and the mental side as strong as possible.

I could be wrong but I believe if I had the gift as you call it or the ability some of these guys have I hope I would still have my work ethic and my general love for the game as I do now.

The gift, is a genetic GIFT,,, you either have it or you don't! I know I don't have it for SURE, but I see guys that don't know much, other then a basic understanding of the mechanics of bowling averaging 220 or even higher. Maybe in their case, ignorance is bliss, they sure seem happy rolling those big numbers!! LOL

I feel your pain in regards to physical limitation! Hey, I am OLD, and broken down with RA, and some doctors say Lupus! But What do they know!!! I stay away from them as MUCH AS POSSIBLE, which has been over two years as of now, and I am doing pretty damn good. I've been told that I even smell like an old man, according to Aslan!!!

    WELL...

I might not of even had the GIFT when I was younger in bowling, but since I started very late in life 63,, after a broken neck, herniated disk lower back, and neuropathy in both my feet do to back injures,,,, I will never KNOW!

I do my BEST too,,, but I rarely beat a GIFTED bowler by out thinking them on the lanes.....LOL... They just keep roling those high 200's, and high series! I do have my days where I fly with the Eagles,,, but they are few!

Getting back to the thinking part of the game, and knowledge

A perfect example of THINKING TOO MUCH would be your friend and MINE! Aslan!!! IF thinking, and knowledge was the key to a high average, then Aslan would be on the Pro Tour!!! LOL LOL ( Aslan just needs a shot of the GIFT

by the way ICEMAN is selling vitamins that you can order though EBay called: THE GIFT,,,, yes you too can be all that you wanted to be in ANY SPORT imaginable! All for the low price of $66.33 a bottle..... wait.... IF YOU ORDER NOW,,, ICE will make that bottle TWO for the price of 132.66!!! Order NOW, this deal will not last LONG, and supplies are limited!!

i think you're right ice man but it i feel like it doesn't take much gift or knowledge to throw a ball the way the OP states "20mph speeds avg." at that speed all you gotta do it hit the head pin and watch'em fall. i know many bowler that bowl this way, whether it is off the corner or straight down the middle, and they average 200+ i don't call it a gift i call horse $h*! lol the only skill being utilized is power and minor accuracy since they at least have to hit the head pin.

i have admit, i throw up to 19mph once and while and off the corner, but I prefer a 15.5mph avg speed and taking it into the pocket . the guy is in his mid 20's and 6'5/6'6, heavy build. just makes me wonder who long he has until he has to work on his control.

And that's the funny part. Guys with high averages that are winging the ball down the lane. But heaven help them if they leave a spare. They're lost because of no control/accuracy.
