Thread: Will turning finger inserts increase rev rate?

Default Will turning finger inserts increase rev rate?

My finger inserts are the Vise type, with the flat side straight down, (90 degrees to the thumb hole). If looking down at the ball, I rotate the inserts so that the flat side is on the left side of thumb hole, (Im right handed), what will it do for my release and rev rate?

I can't imagine that'll be too comfortable in your approach and release, since the flat side would be on the outsides of your fingers if I'm understanding that right. I would think it would end up reducing your revs since I don't think you'd get quite as much grip and "cut" as you're releasing.

basically if the flat side of the inserts are at 6 o'clock when looking down at the ball, I was thinking of maybe 8 o'clock, not so much as it being on the side of the finger. thanks for the reply.

Using the flat side of the inserts only encourages lifting the ball which is contrary to what is needed for modern reactive bowling balls. Put the flat side down at the bottom of the finger holes and use the oval ends to get out of the ball cleanly.

The way the ball leaves the hand (for most people) you want the inserts turned more towards 4-5 o'clock.

Look at the first oil ring on the ball. Have the inserts point in a direction that is parallel to that oil ring.

Vise power lifts add a 1/4" of forward pitch to the hole and should be rotated so that the pads of the fingers rest evenly on the flat part of the insert.

Rotating them any other way would cause fit issues, because they are not meant to be use that way. Your not adding lateral pitch.

Also if you use power lifts your span should be adjusted slightly (shorter), because they stretch your span slightly.

Plus if some one has holes with forward or reverse pitch drilled already, they shouldn't really be using them in the first place.

To help with rev's,You want a good fit for a good clean release. Then work on your release to improve it.

if you want to increase your revs on your throw you have to get your hand more under the ball witch is when you are coming down in your backswing your hand is starting to cup the ball then as the very bottom where you release the ball you let the ball drop and put the arm up fast this will increase your revs.

but go under the general bowling discussion area and look for the thread (brad angelo camp) there will be a lot of stuff in there for you to read and learn and there but I think bowl1820 can explain the release better then I can.

it just comes to me naturaly I have a 450+ rev rate
