    20. How much should local associations spend on their special achievement awards?
Currently, USBC national spends about $0.50 per member on special achievement awards. Whether a local association decides to spend more or less may vary depending on the preference of its members.
    21. What will USBC National do with the $0.50 per member it is saving with this change?
USBC membership typically falls by 120,000 members annually, equaling about $1.2 million in revenue loss every year. The awards change will help offset only some of that loss as $.50 per member is about $1 million.

That is the BEST bowling related news i have heard in a long time!! I wish the usbc would add 2-3 dollars a year to our membership fee and use that for direct funding of mens and womens professional bowling. In turn, during broadcasts there should be major advertising for the usbc. This sport needs heightened promotion in regards to the best bowlers in the world male and female to entice youth to start bowling and continue if already participating. Before we all start complaining about 2-3 dollars, i think most of us have that in a cup holder in our cars. FOR THE LOVE OF BOWLING, i think we could spare 2-3 dollars a year for the betterment of the SPORT. Maybe someone from the usbc will introduce something bigger like that in the future.

Good point! Go to a golf course today and the main topic of conversation is still the Ryder Cup. Golfers watch golf and relate their own games to the professionals. Go to bowl league and mention Jason Belmonte or Sean Rash, and leauge bowlers go, "Who?". The professional level of every sport serves to educate and inspire the amateur participants. Bowling is unique in that the number of fans who can witness a tournament is severely limited by the size of the center where the tournament takes place. I'd gladly pay an extra $10 a year or more to the USBC if our sport could get the attention that it deserves. We don't need more individual awards... we need more bowlers!

    I think it's great news.

    Aslan LOVES the ladies!!

And as to adding $2-3…no biggee to me. But with all the *itching both at the center AND on the web about how they bowl non-sanctioned to save $9 a year or they don't understand why dues are so high…it'd be a tough sell.

And I don't know if bigger payouts and bowling on TV will change much. Bowling used to be on TV every weekend and it slowly died. The increased money needs to go to scholarships to get the youth more involved. High schools and colleges especially.

It doesn't matter what has happened in the past. The usbc, pba, bpaa, wtba, and every other bowling organization needs to stop scratching their *** and start focusing on promoting the future. Elementary and middle schools for example: always plenty of info available about not only school sports but little league baseball and junior league basketball in every community. The usbc needs to develop a training video for PE teachers and a accompanying video for kids to watch about the game and league bowling. The usbc has a portable bowling lane that could go with the videos as well. You go ask a group of kids say 6-12 have you heard of little league baseball and it is a huge percentage. Ask them if they knew there was a bowling league for kids and it would be unbelievably low. There are 10's of thousands of elementary and middle scholls in this country and the cost would be high for the lane but the videos could be feasible for every one of them. Coupons gained from local bowling centers to accompany the videos maybe? Hell i don't know but something needs to be done it that area to let these kids know bowling leagues exist. Big cost involved but just a handful of usbc sanctions from each school covers it.

With the pba and now pwba back their players need to be promoted. Couple of examples that should have garnered big attention: Dick Weber is a guy a lot of sports fans and non bowlers have heard of. Hell he was on the letterman show a ton of times, dave was good friends with him. There was a tribute video of him made by Bill Mccorkle who brought together many of webers friends and family for the project in 2005. Fast forward 9 years later and the first pba senior tour national event for players over 60 was conducted and named the dick weber classic. Any guess on the winner??? Bill mccorkle wins his FIRST national titile in that event. With all the human interest stuff on espn i think that could have been a 30 second spot on sports center at least.

Example 2: A lot of you may snicker at this one but hey no publicity is bad and i think this could have been HUGE in a lot of tv media. We here all about these athletes like jason collins and michael sam and in reality these guys are at the lowest level of their professional sport. Ever heard of Scott Norton? The guy has won 3 career national titles and should be held in a higher regard as far as national attention. I don't think he would have any problem with the attention.

I just wonder sometimes about the marketing departments of our organizations and what in the hell they are doing. Are they calling espn, cnn, fox, msnbc, nbc, etc.??? Whoever has been in charge of promotions and marketing in these organizations should be fired immediately. Maybe next time i will tell you how i really feel.

This is the best news that I could have hoped for
I've been hoping that the Pwba would make a come
    back someday.

Yes I'd be more than happy to pay a higher sanction fee
every year if it would help bring the sport of bowling out
into the limelight and the public eye and really help the
    sport grow.
