my wife and her duo partner are trying to talk our home center manger into trying a night life league. his reply has been " no real bowler would be entrusted in any such league". i do see his point, loud music, black lights, strobe lights, lasers, and a disco feel is not ideal. I came up with the idea of non sectioned fun league. the other idea I had was just getting group of people together and run a make shift league pay for the normal rate and some one keeps track of the standings with out the help of the center or just be true fun and run side pots.

personally, I think doing the night life bowling has helped me with tuning out distractions.

People do non-sanctioned leagues all the time. Since it won't be official, it won't matter if the lights are on or off. And if you have enough interested people, the center will probably support it and give you a discount on the lane usage. The trick is getting enough people interested that the center is willing to okay it. They usually will take a chance if it's a daytime league...but for prime time, I'd imagine you'd need at least 2-3 teams before they'd consider throwing it out there. And then they'd need probably 8-12 teams signed up by the start date to go forward.

The smallest league I've bowled in is the Sunday 8:00AM sport shot league...8 teams of 3. The second smallest was my first league (and only non-sanctioned) and they had like 9-10 teams of 4 and that was a Thursday evening league. In contrast, my old Friday evening league (sanctioned) folded because they only had 6 teams.

The smallest league at our place is 5 teams of 4. Our biggest league is a total full house. The center manager or owner can tell you the smallest league he/she will allow. Start with getting that number and then the rest will follow

Fun leagues should be marketed as exactly that: FUN leagues. Our center is going to be starting a weekly Scotch Doubles tourney soon. I am looking forward to that.

The league I currently bowl on is a fully sanctioned fun league. We don't use the black lights but we do allow the jukebox and we have a first ball dumb a__ trophy at the end of the year, so everyone who gets one gets their picture taken each time. The week of Christmas we have fun night, which is NOT a regular game night. It does not count toward the league. It's a Scotch doubles 9 pins down = a strike night. You do not bowl with anyone on your team. Nobody has to bowl that night and you only pay if you do. 100% of that money goes to prizes for that night, and they are given out at our banquet at the end of the season. We do the black lights and everything that night, and the bowling center lets us do a carry in, pot luck dinner that night. It is one of our most popular leagues.

So have your wife just keep going until she gets enough committed bowlers, and then go back to the center manager and show him the numbers

Nope, when was the last time someone inspected the lanes/pins/ball after an honor score was shot?

What do you get for shooting an honor score?

A Cracker Jack ring, and/or your name on a website.

Yeah you can buy a better one, but what jeweler won't sell you a ring if you have the $$$

it may not matter at the moment, we could just start fillers to see who would be entrusted. would really be a good trail for summer, my center closes monday and tuesday in the summer. say open tuesday, run the light show, what every price they ask for that, plus snack bar, plus I say $15 league (won't ask for a break to get the league started).

maybe a win/win for the center if you would crunch the numbers.

ugh you can tell I have been doing retail and cash management for a while.

I wonder how many high-end balls would react under a black light. An adult-only fun league with all that noise and lights going on would be interesting, if only for a short summer run.

the green in the green in the hysteria glows brighter. think any color the reflects/reacts to black light may.

I might be wrong but I think the majority of the DV8 balls glow.
