Getting into Abralon pads, need some help.

I am looking to get into using abralon pads (by hand don't plan on getting a ball spinner) and I am wanting to know what pads i should buy.. What I look to get out of them is add more hook in the backend when i need it or just to make my older ball hook more in general, also can abralon pads shine a ball or just dull it? the only polish I have is brunswick rough buff factory finish will this come in handy? any advice is appreciated.

If you just want "more hook" then buy a scotch-bright burgundy pad and throw it into your bag.

Seriously. Personally, I carry 500, 1000, 2000, 3000, and 4000 in my bag for altering surfaces before bowling, particularly on tournament or sport shots. In terms of "polishing," abralon pads will not polish your ball, but they can add shine. For instance, if you have a 2000 surface on your ball, and hit it with 4000, it will shine the ball slightly and give you more length similar to using polish. Your intent is admirable. Don't be put off by comments circa 1985.

Yep scotch brite will work just fine on the ball surface even if
it is Circa 1985 even some of the new ball spinners being sold
also include some scotch brite pads.

Would these pads work on an entry level ball, or is there only so much you can do with this type of ball. This is what I have http://www.columbia300.com/products/...-r-tiger-s-eye and I'd like to experiment using Abralon Pads.

Back in the days before high tech bowling balls, there was a pro who said,"I can make a ball do anything I want with a quarter and a piece of sandpaper".

The pads are nothing more than a high tech version of sandpaper and would certainly change the surface of your Scout.

The quarter in the quote would now be a dollar or maybe more for the polishing machine which is NOT recommended for anything but a plastic ball.

Scotch-brites, Wet/Dry sandpaper, Abralon pads, Siaair pads, are all perfectly fine for adjusting ball surfaces. As long as the right grits are used at the right time.

I use Abralon and wet/dry paper mainly, I also have the red, green and gray scotch-brites.

I haven't used the red or green scotch-brites in a long time. They are basically too coarse for most uses anymore and abralon & paper have tighter tolerances which give a more consistent/accurate finish.

Now I still like the Gray S-B for a under grit sometimes.
