on your scores, what does a square round a number mean? is it a split? and why do some bowlers wear a sleeve on their bowling arm? many more dumb questions to come

Mainly it's just another fad.
They have fancy graphics on them, to try and make you look cool or to advertize a company and/or product.

Sorry...gonna disagree here. They actually DO work. It may depend on what the elbow pain/arm pain is from and where in the arm it is. I bowl with one (at times-mostly wear it at work, tho) and mine is just plain ole gray, and the next day I am so glad I did. I can tell when I'm bowling when I need it - the discomfort is tolerable, but if it starts and I don't wear it, the next morning my elbow/arm is in lots of pain.
Yes, I agree the graphics may be something to get more people to try it and those that don't benefit from it will be making it a "fad", but that shouldn't keep those that could benefit from the sleeve from using it. If you have any pain in the elbow/arm area, I would say try one and see if it helps - won't hurt to try.

All I said was that compression sleeves are meant to help reduce pain, the time for muscle recovery, blood flow to muscles. (They also help wick away moisture from the skin.)
I never said they didn't work.
As for it being a fad, it is now. Everyone started seeing some pros wearing them and it "What's that he wearing? Do I need one? Does that help? Will I score better? etc. "I WANT ONE!" Marketing light comes on, Make in Flashy colors, add company logos. Bingo!

I used a compression sleeve on my elbow. It helps keep my elbow warm and loose. At the place bowl, it's pretty cold in the bowling alley when we start since all the equipment is off prior to bowling. One of the last nights of league it was 63 inside prior to the start. I usually get to the alley about 25 min prior to the start, that allows me enough time to get loose, allow me and my equipment to get used to the temp. By the end of night it's usually about 70 in the alley. These are some of the problems we deal with here in WI.

I wear a knee brace when I remember and am doing a lot of practicing. I don't need it for just a few games of league or whatever. It's just a standard one…not sure if it's "compression". They've always been around and I think they can help certain ailments. I had a cyst on the back of my knee a long time ago and the doctor said to wear one for sports…never had a problem with that knee again. And if my knee is hurting…I wear that thing…knee doesn't hurt.
But I also have to agree with Bowl1820 on some level because quite frankly…it's something that I think is totally over-used simply because it's "cool". Like bowling wrist braces kinda surfaced and everyone was wearing them…then they kinda faded away…now we're seeing "gloves" lot more than in the past.

The way I see it, if it helps you feel good physically or emotionally for whatever reason, then go for it! Can only help.
Not a wrist brace or glove…they are talking about those compression sleeves that have become popular in various sports. Belmo always wears one so thats added a bowling following. But while I don't think wrist braces are worn "to be cool", I think gloves are about 10-20% "to be cool". Most people like them and they probably improve their game…but I think there are some folks out there that just want to look like PDW.
What I don't get is…NOBODY I've ever bowled with wears sunglasses. I'm surprised that fad hasn't at least sort of started already.
