Thread: Having fun in No Tap!

Default Having fun in No Tap!

So my local house has a no tap tourney at the end of each league season for each league and the Friday night league I was bowling in was a short league so it ended a couple of weeks ago. Well the end of season no tap for Friday nights was last night and I won it with a 245, 238, 274 (front 9 then 8/,6) with 2 no tap strikes in each game. Tonight I finally went and bowled a biweekly no tap in a neighboring town where a lot of my bowling buddies bowl too. My first time there and oil is a little different so it started off rough trying to find my line well I found it in the 3rd game ... 206, 182, and 298 ... LOL. Tugged the last 2 hard and the first one found Brooklyn for 9 then the last ball went too far left and left the 6-10 lol.

Now my no tap games are done for a while and time to get back to league tomorrow night!

We do no taps at the end of each half. I won mine with an 850-something last week.

There are a couple big no-tap tourneys here each month, usually need 860+ to have a shot, gets ridiculous!

The last time I bowled no tap was about fifteen years ago. It was a handicap tournament. One game I shot 300 and lost to a 318! Since then I tend to avoid No Tap events. LOL

I assume they are referring to scoring strikes for a certain amount of pins being knocked down. Here is WI we refer to no tap as just "9 pin". So if you get 9 on your first ball, it's recorded as a strike.

In the couples league I bowl, the last night of the year we do a 9 pin tournament. All the fees for that night of league are paid out as prize money. Top three men and top three women get paid. The only downside is they still factor in handicap. So there are people who normally score low because they can't spare to save their lives, but they can usually get nice. I have the second lowest handicap in the league, so I stand no chance on winning money.

For me, it's more of a fundamental objection.

    What does "no-tap" reward?

    1) High rev, high carry, low accuracy bowlers.
    2) Bowlers unable to pick up corner pins or bad spare shooting in general.
    3) It sends the message that having a complete game is less important than your first ball average.

It's a terrible idea, usually taken advantage of by bowlers too lazy to work on their spare shooting and I just don't like the message it sends.

Just came from practicing at my home house. They have a banner up for a 9-pin tap tournament, no handicap, runs for a few weeks. Top spot pays out $3000. Might have to consider signing up for this thing.

No tap 9 pin scratch is what I have been bowling in this thread. For me it is just about having fun and not stressing. With that said I think my buddy might be onto something when he told me he quit bowling no tap because he bowls horrible afterwards. I laid down one of my worst sets in months tonight in league LOL. Luckily we still took all 8 points but yeah I have to get back on track now and surprisingly enough it wasn't the corner pins I was missing tonight it was big splits and some easy spares I normally have no issues with.
