got it. What did they want? MORE OIL! In our league the shot was gone after less than halfway thru game two. The crowd leans towards bowlers aged 45 to 60, with some young guns thrown in . Guys were tied of fighting the dry conditions and the owner added two feet to the pattern. That brings it up to 40'.
I bowled horribly the first game, trying several different lines with my Marauder Mutiny, only to shoot a whopping 133. Switched to my Black Widow Legend and slowed down to around 13 mph at the pins. Hit the pocket but couldn't carry . 193 and 187 with one open in each game. Last game had 4 strikes and 7 ten pins. At least we won 5 out of 7 points.
I wish I could say the same where I throw--it seems really dry out there.
Last night, I was standing all the way on the right (I'm a lefty), throwing out to the first arrow but still coming in heavy. It was a really rough night--didn't even sniff 180.
By throwing out to the first arrow, you were out in the dryest part of the lane. Next time try playing in closer to the middle and stay in the oil longer.Originally Posted by jab5325

Exactly this. By getting your ball into the dry the friction takes speed off the ball. My Tuesday league is like this, if I don't stay in and get my ball down lane I will be heavy on the head pin or crossing over every time. When I do get it out, the ball speed indicator is more than 1 mph different than when I keep it inside the oil.

WOW!!!! I really just wish that I could have found a dry board on
our lanes last night as we have a new mechanic/lane man that is
just learning how to do things.
Well he put oil in the stripper tank and I guess he also put oil in the
oil tank on the machine Wednesday because instead of the machine
stripping the lanes and oiling them it was oiling the lanes all the way
off the back of the pin decks instead of stripping them and then it was
oiling on top of the oil already laid down by the stripping part.
It was so bad that I heard that on the Wednesday night league no one
had over a 520 series and there is some heavy hitters on the league
and on the league last night there was only 1 bowler that broke a 500
series out of the whole league and he only had a 502 series and he is a
230+ average bowler
I think all I could manage was a 436 or something around that series and
that was using my new Hammer Badass that I sanded down to 500 grit after
I heard what happened to the oiling machine before we started league practice
when the owner was making the announcements and telling everyone what had
happened to the oiling machine and it wouldn't even move 2 boards on those lanes.
The really bad thing is the last night of league before the Christmas/New Year 2
week break was I couldn't even use the Badass with the OOB finish as it was way
too strong for the house shot we had then and now it won't move even 2 boards.
Hopefully they will have the oiling machine straightened out before next week if
not then I'm taking the next week or two off from bowling. LOL!!!!!

Thanks for the tip. I started out on the tighter line. There was another lefty playing a tight line, and as the game wore on, I kept having to move outside.
Eventually (about 1.5 games in), I gave up on the tight line and went outside and faster. I need to develop my game more--I was never that "comfortable" playing tight, and after 7-8 years away from the game, am struggling to get my rhythm back. Truthfully, I've always tried to throw a similar style to Earl Anthony. I've never been a cranker....and I've been watching Earl's videos on YouTube.
From what I was told, the house laid down a different pattern last night. Scores across the league were lower.....although the above mentioned "other" lefty threw somewhere north of 650. He too moved outside as the game went on, but not as far as me (he's an older guy who doesn't have a lot of ball speed).

This is a vicious cycle.
People will starting changing balls to compensate for the extra oil, which in turn will remove more oil from the lane.
And you're right back to the shot will again be gone after a game.
The solution to that problem, is to use LESS oil to the point where people can't keep reactive resin balls on the their side of the lane.
When people switch to urethane, the shot will remain consistent for the whole night.
Problem is, people then can't rely on the oil to help guide the ball, so the scores go down.
It's just a question of is good bowling about doing better than your competition, or is it about achieving a specific level of scores?
All I did for three games was try different lines, but what line I didn't try was just getting the ball swung out to around 10 to see what would happen. I was outside of ten all the way to two looking for anything dry. Couldn't get any carry out there but pounded the pocket. Last game was 11 straight in the pocket for 187. I still have my DV8 Thug to drill up. It's more aggressive than anything else I have. May try it next week.
