Thread: Thumb soreness

    Default Thumb soreness

I get some soreness from my thumb. It is the side area illustrated below.

Everything else is fine. No pain what so ever so sounds like my span is fine. I can bowl 10 games straight and no muscle pain except for a little soreness from the thumb area. I do use tape as to prevent rubbing and ripping of the skin from that area also.

My thumbhole is round and is snug. I don't grip the ball what so ever and it releases pretty cleanly.

Is it just something I'm going to have to live with. I'm afraid if I open up the hole or make it oval it will change my grip and force me to grab the ball

Invest in some Roby's skin patch. if it's not really serious I wouldn't worry about it too much you will eventually develop a callus there and it won't irritate it anymore. If it is blistering apply the skin patch before starting to bowl.

Yeah I use Vise Hada blue tape before I bowl now so no more ripped skin.

Rubbing in that spot is a sign that there maybe too much Left Pitch and/or the hole is to small.

As for a Oval causing you to grab the ball, It shouldn't if it's sized properly.

Given if your blistering in that spot, while applying Robby's New Skin is okay as a temporary fix. It's not a long term solution to the problem.

In a proper fitting grip you shouldn't have any callouses or blistering or ripped skin.

If you have a thumb slug, you can always use sand paper and just relieve the area your thumb drags, or try to put a radius on that area of the thumb hole with a scraper tool. Most likely it's just a slightly sharper spot on the edge of the hole that you're dragging your thumb over .
