    A rough first game with a 150 then settled down for 193 and 201 for a 544

On a side note we did have some pretty good bowling going on around us, a guy on one side of us had an 801 and a guy to the other side threw a 299....

No sandals, says his name is Jim, but it says St. Peter on the bowling screen ! We are in Illinois, but it's only 4 1/2 hours to St Louis...by car .

Started out trying to follow the coaching advice I was given where your first step and ball move at the same time.
That did work out so well shot a 121 ! worst game in recent memory. For the second and third game went back to my normal timing where I take the first step without moving the ball shot a 222 and a 218, for a 561, not too bad considering the 121

Also tried a new ball and line, with the surface adjusted to 4000 on the Hy-Road tried to play a more down and in shot 15/10 12 /8 around there, the ball is still too strong for that but ended up 22 -25 / 10-12 and the ball was beautiful !
(thanks Amyers for the ball surface tips)

Glad to hear that you found a line that works. 222-218 not too shabby. I struggle throwing inside of 18 without making major shifts in my swing so glad it's working for you. If your starting the ball on the second step of a four step delivery you have a coping mechanism or you wouldn't be able to throw those kind of scores. You need to identify what the coping mechanism is before you start trying to change when you start your swing so you can work on both at the same time. You're speeding up your feet, abbreviating your swing, speeding the ball up, or something to compensate. It's probably a combination of some or all of these but you can't change your swing start by that much and expect everything else to work together. if your going to change something like that you need to do it in practice by yourself when you can just throw one ball after another to develop the feel of it. Try to set aside enough time to throw at least 5 games with it. Congrats on the nice scores and glad to hear the surface change helped

Hopefully you didn't try that the first time in league setting. Are you a 5 step or 4 step?
If it was practice, stick with it. May seem a bit off at first when you incorporate something different. In the long run it will help you to get your timing where it needs to be.
Nice shooting 2nd and 3rd games.

Yes, not sure what I do or if I even want to change it ! Funny thing is one of the other guys I bowl with asked me what I was doing / trying to do and noticed when I was trying to do it the "correct" way it looked like I was dropping the ball, and I was it like I was early with the ball . Then he went up and realized he does the same thing as I do, starting the ball on 2nd step....he has had a 200+ average the last 10 + years. He's the Gold Rhino guy and he shot 630 or something with it last night.
I am pretty amazed at how much the Hy-Road still turns even with a 4000 finish.

Nice shooting 2nd and 3rd games.
I did try it in league play, as a result ended up with the 112. As luck would have it I realized when I read the post from Rob about the old traditional ways and modern methods that what I was doing was his first example, I use a 4 step approach taking the first step without moving the ball, then the second step start the ball and walk slowly. I now realize why I had to take my hyroad up to a dull 4000 finish to play 22 -24 and 10-12 where a bunch of the other guys throwing them and playing 15 / 10.
I first started learning to bowl(if you can call it that) back in the 80', and have thrown using that approach since then. I don't think changing at this point is an option!

As a long time teacher and student, I can tell you with complete cofidence that in my own case, when I quit learning and quit changing, I will be dead! Just sayin'.

I have changed many things and experimented in practice with changing my timing. The more I read the less I see that makes me think it would be to my advantage, after all I see articles by top coaches talking about reasons to add late timing to your game. I guess I'm not confident there is a good reason to make this change. After bowling dozens of games trying to get used to normal 4 step timing and seeing the result in my game I'm also not confident it's in my best interest to continue trying to change it.
I went to a gold coach and he helped me change a number of things, he never once suggested I try changing my timing, in fact he said my timing and release were the strong points of my game.
