Default My swing got better making this change............

I was watching an instructional video on bowling. It said that if you take too many steps before you push your ball out into the swing you will have a good chance of muscling the ball in the downswing so it catches up with your slide. This usually leads to pulled shots and missing your target on the lane. In the video it was said that on a five step approach the ball should be set into it's swing as you go into the second step. It took a little bit for me to get used to it but once I did I didn't feel like I had to muscle the ball into the downswing. Now it is just a habit and the change works for me. My swing timing is better and my release got better. It feels more natural. I have bowled for 28 years and I find that I am still learning stuff about this game that has helped me.

Congrats. Came back to bowling after being away for 30 years. Brought all my bad habits back with me including muscling. It took me way too long to get that fixed along with turning too early and coming over top of the ball. Started bowling with a 3-step approach when I was a kid. Tried 4-step but it somehow never felt right. Switched to 5-steps and never went back. I guess I thought I needed to get more speed on the ball. Been working on keeping my hand behind the ball as long as possible which really helps me with my swing. Lately have been toying with getting my hand to open up a bit on the backswing which seems to give me a bit more reaction on the ball.
    Keep up the good work...

I made a similar change recently and seems to be paying dividends. The key for me was to TRY and start moving the ball on the first step of my five step approach. This allowed me to actually drop the ball as my second step hit the ground. I was always a half step late trying to push out and drop on the second step.
