Thread: Wife's Maxim ball drifting to the right

Default Wife's Maxim ball drifting to the right

Ok, my wife is a pure straight shooter with conventional grip. She's had her Maxim ball for over 6 months now. Honestly it is a bit beat up. No deep gouges but nicks and scratches here and there.

Yesterday playing on two lanes her ball kept drifting to the right. After a few games she used a house ball and it was going straight. My guess is her ball just needs to be resurfaced. Is this common for plastic spare balls to display this type of behavior?

Also, as a straight shooter is it better for her to keep bowling with a plastic ball or will a reactive resin ball be the same/better/worse for her? Reason is we are in a league that gives out a ball at the end of league. Thinking DV8 Hooligan for her.

    Thanks

I can't imagine the surface of a ball causing it to drift to the right on a consistent basis it is much more likely in the release of the ball with the house ball it didn't happen because of the fit.

She may see some small benefit from the core of the hooligan but shes not really going to see much difference in the hit from plastic to reactive with a conventional gripped straight roller style.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing but with the house ball it was going straight. She bowls straight up center of lane. By the time it gets to the pins the ball is hitting the 6 or 10 pin

Something in the release is the culprit that's just not happening with the house ball. The only time I have ever seen a ball effected to the magnitude is with a broken core and that ball just went every where.

The house ball probably didn't go to the right because the grip is different, causing her to "correct" the delivery flaw which resulted in her Maxim drifting to the right.

Regardless, an entry-level reactive like the Columbia 300 Scout is a good choice for a beginner.

You guys are probably right. It happens only occasionally. Some days it goes where she targets other days it doesn't

Thing with my wife is she isn't very "technical". She gets up there and tosses it. No arrows or watching her steps or form so yes it probably is just an inconsistent release.

If your wife is serious about becoming a bowler....it's far better to sink money into lessons than equipment at this stage.

No, she is recreation. Straight bowling is where she is comfortable. It's fun for her.

Nothing wrong with that she may find after doing it for a while she may want to get more serious about it or she may not. Just let her pick whatever balls she thinks are pretty. I would shy away from asymmetrical balls for her though

Well we bowled again tonight and wife bowled with wrist guard and it was better. More consistent.

We're bowling almost every day now with the AMF Summer Pass that allows for 3 free games every day. Add that our two free league games and it's basically free bowling all summer long
