    Default New balling ball

Im still somewhat new to bowling, as i've been bowling only for a few months now. I have a frantic storm 16 pounds and a 16 pound T-Zone bowling ball. I was thinking of adding the black widow assassin, but im not sure if it would fit me. I have slow speeds about 10-11mph. If not, could you give me some suggestions on what bowl might be good, looking for something medium-heavy oil.

    Two things to think about.

    1. At this point you will find you are better off to devote some money to coaching rather than buying additional bowling balls. Until you are properly using your approach and release it's hard to judge what bowling balls will fit you best. They may be able to help you increase your ball speed and things like that

    2. As a lower speed guy 11.5-12.5 I can tell you how hard it is to bowl at lower speed you have a significant disadvantage every time you walk out on the lanes. At those speeds if you develop very much rotation controlling a lot of bowling balls is going to be very difficult for you. If you are limited due to age or injury to that speed I would suggest going to a lighter 15 or even 14 pound ball to help with that situation. Some of us just aren't built to throw those weights. I would suggest talking with a quality PSO about balls and weights if you decided not to pursue coaching. If your are using a coach they may be able to help you with this also.

Ameyers is right on the money. The low RG Black Widow core is much too early for your ball speed, especially at 16 lbs. A qualified coach can easily help you to develop more ball speed. You can get several bowling lessons for the price of a high end bowling ball.

Honestly I don't think you need another ball at this point. Slower speeds should allow you to use your Frantic on medium and even heavier oil patterns without issue. Unless you are playing on really heavy oil, I don't think that the Black Widow Assassin is going to help you all that much. In fact, you may find it difficult to get it down the lane without having it start rolling really early and losing a lot of its energy before it hits the pins.

Note: I am not very experienced compared to a lot of other people here, so don't take everything I say as absolute fact.

Thanks for the information. I don't have a coach right now, honestly i don't see any flyers or anything for coaches. Not sure if there are any around my area, I live in Birdsboro PA. Any tips on picking up some speed on the ball, thanks!

To find coaches check with your local pro-shop and Bowling center, there are usually a number of people in most area's offering coaching. One of the typical ways to increase ball speed is holding the ball higher in your starting stance.

not sure about Birdsboro but there are a ton of great coaches in Philadelphia. Mo Pinel does a lot of traveling workshops in eastern PA. also. You can also look on Bowl.com under find a coach. Speed issues can depend on a lot of issues it could be start off position, timing, foot work, or many others hard to really say with out watching you bowl. Try to post your shot (hold your finish position) until the ball passes your target if you can't do it that's a god sign that you have timing issues.
