Thread: Anyone here bowled after thumb surgery

Default Anyone here bowled after thumb surgery

I am close to the time when I will have to have surgery on my thumb (left) due to arthritis / joint wear and I can see a time in the next few years where I might need the same surgery on my right thumb.
I know there are several different surgical choices and wondered if anyone here has went through it. One of the most popular surgeries removes the joint and inserts a tendon wrapped in the area , but they do say it shortens the thumb ....

Just learn to bowl the two-handed thumbless style. Then you won't have to worry much about your thumbs

In all seriousness, no I have not. But I definitely would take off bowling for a month or two after surgery on your right thumb just so it can heal and what not.

I doubt I'll try the two handed style or be off for only a month or two, they say the rehab can average about 4 months, I only have met one guy who had it done, he was off work for 9 months ( needs full use of this thumb for work ).

Man that stinks. My wife had carpel tunnel surgery but it wasn't that bad. I don't know anyone that's had something that serious done. If I had to go through something that serious I would be very tempted just to give the game up even as much as I love it. Was this bowling or work related or just general bad luck? I don't think I would switch to two handed but I might consider giving thumb less a whirl just to keep from making the problem worse.
