That gives me Low RG High Diff at 2000 (pearl). Low RG Med Diff and High RG High Diff at 3000 (Hybrid and Pearl) Low RG High Diff, High RG High Diff at 1500 Polish (Hybrid and Pearl)
I've recently started bowling in a monthly tournament involving various sport shots. (2014 USBC Masters, Sphinx.... Eiffel Tower is next)
Its force me to become much better in many ways, especially spares. However, I've been stuggling to string together strikes, even on our house shot... to the point that there is virtually no discernible difference between between my scores on a house shot (white pattern) and a sport shot... (with the exception of bigger penalties for bad shots, obviously)
I had been bowling pretty well in the summer with a fairly large Axis of Rotation.. However, i've been trying to stay more up the back to keep me from getting into trouble on sport conditions and I've continued to practice that during practice on the house shot. I'm not sure if this is why I'm struggling now or not... but is it reasonable to assume that a change in Axis of Rotation for my base release may cause carry issues? Would moving to higher grit or more polish help get some of that entry angle back and energy retention back that I may have lost by changing my release?
For example, my benchmark ball was a Marvel Pearl at 3000 Grit which I liked because with my high AOR release it still gave me a smooth strong arc at the breakpoint. Previously with a higher AOR and a polished finish, the Marvel pearl was to much of a skid snap reaction that I didn't like. (lots of 4-9 splits) 3000 seemed to be the sweet spot between control and energy retention with that ball. Perhaps I'm losing too much energy with earlier hook due to a lower AOR now? I polished the Marvel pearl tonight and the reaction was great with the lower AOR release.. not too skid/flip for me to handle and carry seemed a bit better. I was practicing on the Atlanta pattern tonight, so I'll have to see how it fairs on the house condition... but it definitely was giving me a controllable reaction.
I'm thinking of bumping up the grit on my whole arsenal to compensate for the earlier hook from a lower AOR release... IQ Fusion from 2000 to 3000 (new benchmark)... Hyroad from 4000 to Polish (as a step down from the Marvel Pearl)... Marvel Pearl from 3000 to Polish. Keeping Hyroad Pearl at 3000 to be a good step down from the Fusion mostly due to the higher RG of the Hyroad Pearl.. And taking my Locker Queen Optimus down to 2000.... (my thug unruly is benched because it only seems to work with a high AOR release.)
That gives me Low RG High Diff at 2000 (pearl). Low RG Med Diff and High RG High Diff at 3000 (Hybrid and Pearl) Low RG High Diff, High RG High Diff at 1500 Polish (Hybrid and Pearl)
Lower AORs tend to read the pattern while high AORs react later, as you've seen. So logic would say to go with less surface (as you've stated above) to delay the reaction longer.
Now if you have to move in way inside you may need to increase your AOR to carry the corners.
