Thread: Any Black Friday sales at your local pro shop?

Default Any Black Friday sales at your local pro shop?

Just saw one local reputable shop here is offering free drilling (including slugs and inserts) until 10am and $20 after that. Not a bad deal. That's $70 savings

A couple of years ago, on Black Friday, I went to bowl pot games at 9:30 a.m.. The poor guy in the proshop (part of a chain) had been there since six with no customers at all. I can't imagine that a Black Friday sale in a proshop would be very successful with all the wives of the bowlers out lining up at the chain stores to buy TV sets! LOL

Hope that's the case here. They are also offering detox and resurface for $20

Our local shop has some specials on certain balls etc for Pre-Black Friday and I think they are offering 30% off anything in stock on Black Friday. 25% off if they have to order it.

Optimus Solid now at $140 drilled with grips and slug. $175 Roto-Grip Menace drilled, grips and slug.

Thinking I will pick up a couple bags and a Roto-Grip Haywire.

I bought a ball last year and the year before. Bowlingball.com has had some good black Friday week deals in the past.

I picked up a Fortera Exile last December on bowlingball.com...it had been a ball I wanted since it came out...and they got it down to $105 shipped...which is probably the most I've paid for a bowling ball...but that was a pretty good deal at the time. Should I have waited? I don't know. The Exile is still going for $120 + shipping on most sites still carrying it...so it hasn't nosedived in price/value too much over the course of the year. Bowlingball.com is still selling it at $144...so I guess it's went UP in value since last year.

The only deal that tempts me on bowlingball.com...and I can definitely plug this without getting a spam warning...since it's the site sponsoring the forum...but they have a Pyramid Path plastic spare ball for $39.99 shipped. But I need another ball like I need another bunghole....so unless my 15lb Maxim breaks this week...I think I'll pass. But...and this IS possible given I bought it used...if something happens to the Maxim this week....I'd probably buy the Pyramid Path for 39.99 and let bb.com drill it (since I don't use VISE It on my spare ball). I bet I save $50 over buying a $45 plastic Columbia and get it drilled at the pro shop.

bowlingball.com needs to have a deal for drilling. If they did, I would certainly buy my Haywire from them. I know my drill specs etc.

Bowlerx has a decent deal on the Melee Cross ($79.99 shipped) and they got the N'Sane Antics down to about $109 shipped.

I find both of those deals tempting as well...just kinda stocked a little heavy right now and a bit cash challenged. I like the N'Sane Antics...even though I'm starting to transition away from Columbia balls...I just don't need another low RG ball right now. I'm already contemplating reducing my arsenal from 6 to 3 for next season just because I don't know if there's really any value in drilling up 3 balls with identical 2.49 RGs. I'm not 100% in line with Rob on progressions vs. other systems for arsenal management...but I do see his point on balls with identical specs....and no matter what anyone claims...everything I've seen first hand or on video points to drilling/layouts being a marginal, at best, way to change ball motion.

So...to have three 2.49 RG balls...unless they have drastically different coverstocks....I don't have confidence drilling layout is going to matter much. And if I end up drilling up 4 balls...and using primarily just the one ball over 75% of the time (because the #2 and #3 are so similar)...then whats the point of drilling up the other 2? The off chance that maybe on a given night or pair that one of those (#2/#3) looks 'slightly' better? Especially when only drilling 2 balls (vs 4) and carrying just 3 saves me $100 in drilling and means I don't have to lug around 2 extra balls all season...although I'll easily burn through that $100 savings to get a 3-ball roller bag...but still...less wear and tear on the back.

Free drilling is a BIG savings for me. That's $70 saved right there (that's the consensus drilling price around here for drilling, inserts, slug). If they don't mark-up the ball too much locally you are getting a heck of a deal.

My pro shop has a few specials on certain balls, bags and cleaners, but nothing to breakout the credit card. I think I may be set for a bit on balls, though he Roto Grip Critical and Storm Lock do have my interest.
In my bag: Roto Grip UFO, Roto Grip Hyper Cell Fused and Roto Grip Hustle hyb
