Question Violating personal rule by asking this, but what ball do you think?

These people are not me...so I will ask this question for them...even though I myself rarely reply to these type of questions...because it's almost an every 4 days kinda question that is often impossible to accurately answer without seeing the person throw...BUT!...

Player 1- Older guy, slower speed, above average bowler, a release sorta like someone "turning a valve" <---too much hand gyration if I was his coach. Currently throws an old Brunswick Fury. Looking for an affordable replacement, something with newer technology.

Player 2- Thumbless bowler, high speed and rpms, younger bowler (mid-upper 20s), average-above average bowler...currently throwing a Hammer Nail Titanium. He's having trouble carrying on pocket hits. The problem is, I don't think you can get a ball that is any weaker in terms of cover but with a more powerful core...OR...if he should get something a little stronger and maybe move inside just a bit.

    Rules:
    1) Don't talk about fight club.
    2) Please explain WHY....BASED ON THE GIVEN INFORMATION...you'd suggest ..."X" ball.
    3) Do NOT include things like color or smell. Neither of these are children or females.

Now....I didn't know what to tell Player #1. I was thinking a Hybrid....but I know NOTHING about the Brunswick Fury in terms of similar stuff nowadays. As for Player 2, I suggested the Hammer Burgandy....but I'm starting to think maybe the Viral instead? I wanted him to throw my Loaded Revolver just to see how it changed his shot from the Nail Platinum...but I don't know what to tell 2-handed or thumbless bowlers....it still baffles me they can bowl at all using such non-traditional methods.

So, have fun and don't hurt each other...

Player One - Melee Jab or Melee Hook depending on his preference for pearl or solid. The Fury has a very low RG (2.47), so a replacement should have a little more length to compliment his slower ball speed.

Player Two - Viral Solid (Good choice)... a little stronger and earlier, allowing him to play deeper and still get it back.

Rob is pretty good at this game.

I wonder if I should offer him the Melee Jab. I mean, you gave it to me...I guess I do have $$ invested in it having it re-drilled for the VISE IT insert...

Ughhh...moral dilemma. Do I wait till I retire the arsenal and give it to him then? Or do I just say, "hey...it was free to me...here ya go." I think they call that "paying it forward".

I'll talk to him next week. The Jab is on sale on BowlerX...and I think it's on sale on bowlingball.com as well. The Melee Hook I think is a little more. He seemed very concerned about price and usually buys used balls...so maybe he'd be willing to wait until the end of the season and just take mine for free. I'm probably going to end up tossing my used stuff or giving it to the local pro shop when I end up moving anyways...better to give it to a fella that'll use it...and he was a nice guy. He was interested in the inserts as well...maybe his span is close enough that he can just use it as is with just the cost of one insert?

Giving the ball to a guy who can use it is always a nice thing to do! Do you have some balls that haven't been drilled yet? You could always drill one or two up and start using them.

Well I fit as player one maybe without the hand gyration. I understand the reasoning of the Melee balls especially in relation to what he's throwing now but they don't roll well for me so I'll give a couple of different ideas. If he wants control Arson Low Flare. If he wants back end pop Rocket.

I do like Rob's and your ball for player two. Picking balls for two handers without seeing them bowl is even harder than it is for one handers. There seems to be even more variation of roll with two handers than compared to normal deliveries plus the characterizations we have for one handers don't work for two handers

No. If I gave it to him, I'd just use the Loaded Revolver more. It's very similar in specs to the Melee Jab...but the Jab is much newer and you can see the difference. So, that's why I'm tempted to pay it forward and just give it to him...because Rob gave it to me because:

    1) He didn't really like it for his game.
    2) He wanted to show me how technology/age is certainly a factor to consider.

So, he accomplished his goal and I now see the difference...so I should probably pass it along...

The downside is that as my release has improved...I'm now much more reliant on the Jab than I was originally. I'd say right now it's my 2nd (of 5) favorite option...and could be #1 very soon. I hate to give away the ONE ball that is actually working. Especially to a guy I'm gonna have to compete with at sweeps.

I bowl with a fellow that sounds a lot like #1. He does very well with a Storm Crux.

For #2 I would look at a low differential ball to allow them to move a bit more outside. Maybe a Radical Rack Attack.
