Thread: Struggling with my form

    Default Struggling with my form

I'm just getting back to bowling after a 4 year break and I'm pretty sure my form and release are really messed up. Here's a video even though it's not the best: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFRKhwqWY_U

I was watching Norm's series last night and I think my problem is I'm spinning my hand to early and not generating any revs. My ball looks like it's spinning (I use an Optimus solid/Hyroad) but I'm barely getting any response. Any tips on fixing my problems?

I'm the last one to give advice...but here it goes
    1. When my ball isn't hooking, I need to slow it down, have you tried that?
    2. After you released it, to me it looked as you can up too fast. Probably not the issue, but it just looked different to me.

I try to slow it down, but I just can't keep it consistent and end up going back to my normal speed.

I'm not sure how much follow through you'd usually have, but it looks a little chopped off to me. About half the time my approach seems off, I can trace it back to chopping off my follow through. Just a thought.

It looks like you are trying to make the ball hook. You don't need to. Modern balls are so strong that they hook all by themselves. Try rolling the ball instead of throwing the ball. That should keep you more behind it and give you more power. You might also want to post a side view. I think there might be a timing issue, but it can't be seen from the back.

The main issue I see if that you are releasing the ball way above the equator of the ball so it's just spinning instead of getting any significant rotation. I attached a screenshot to show you where your hand is when you release. Your hand needs to be below the yellow line that I drew for you to get any significant amount of rotation. Also like Rob said, you can try to keep your hand behind the ball, this I believe will also help keep your hands below the equator as well..

Thanks for the help all, I'll start working on the things you've mentioned.
