Default Left eye dominate right handed bowler

Ok I just found out why I am missing left a lot. I am a left eye dominate right handed bowler. I know the board I want to aim at and the adjustment to get me there but I still throw the ball left of my intended target ending up going high in the pocket or worst crossing over. Anyone else dealing with this? I have been upset when I miss my target so much that I just thought well you suck at bowling. explains the next statement well though, I was practicing with friends the other day and things where not going well. I left a 2,4 and 10 and turned to my partner and said watch this I switched hands and bowled left handed with the prettiest pickup of the split you ever saw.

Thinking about having a ball plugged and redrilled left hand to see if I can hit my target more consistently. Any thoughts?

You can try targeting further down lane, at the point where the ball exits the pattern as detailed here: http://bowlingknowledge.info/images/...inskinov09.pdf

I seem to be cross dominant as well and I want to try this method. Just need to find some time to practice with it. At the moment, I just try to aim a little right of my actual target to compensate for this. I would say though, if you are comfortable throwing left-handed, go for it. It seems that lefty's have an advantage sometimes due to there being fewer people throwing on their side, which lets the pattern hold for them longer than us poor right-handers.

I've been struggling with this very thing for years. The two solutions that have worked the best for me so far is to target further down the lane (I use the reflections of the pins), or to target the laydown point just over the foul line. Just recently I noticed that when I look straight ahead, the left eye dominance causes me to see the left side of my nose peripherally in my vision. I've started working on turning my head just slightly to the right until the right side of my nose appears, ensuring that I am actually seeing with my right eye. Though I just started doing this, I've already seen an improvement in targeting/accuracy.

In my opinion, that statement that left handed bowlers have an advantage over righties is bull. I have several good left handed bowlers who get trapped and other things that make it not so easy for them being just the one bowler on the left. And when there's two or more, it's not a gimme either. I have friends who switched due to injury or other reasons and realized the left side isn't as easy as once thought from back in the day.

I'm left eye D too, and I look left of my target but there are days where I just look at my target and hit it. If I'm missing left, I adjust my eyes to the right. there may be something wrong with my approach and I'm not going to fix it during leagues or tourney's. If I'm consistently missing left or right, I'd adjust my scope - my eyes.

I should add too, I set up my with my left eye over the center of my ball. My ball is sits in front of my arm pit and my hand just below my elbow. And if I'm still missing my spot, then it's my physical game that wrong.......

I am a left eye dominate right handed bowler also and the way I fixed
my problem of missing my mark to the left all of the time was I look 5
boards to the right of where I want my ball to cross the arrows at.

Okay say I want to hit 2nd arrow I'll look and target the 1st arrow or
if I'm playing a deeper inside line say 4th arrow I'll look at and target
3rd arrow I always target 5 boards to the right no matter what line
    I'm playing.

The only exception to that rule is when I'm having to play the 1st
arrow then I'll target farther down lane and kind of look at the edge
of the gutter on the right side of the lane.

Thanks guys you have given me ideas to try (plus one I should have thought of to begin with). Since I bowl from a wheel chair and do not have to concern my self with approach. So I think once the wheel chair is in place, I am going to try closing my left eye and target with the right. I already have 5 balls drilled right handed I sure do not want to add to them with left hand drilled balls.

I have a question for the bowlers who say to throw a little left of their target. If you target is a little left of your target, wait, wait which target is your target? One more thing if you are left eye dominant you are probably a natural left hander.

Eye dominance and hand dominance have nothing whatsoever to do with one another. Opposite eye dominance is very common.

At the end of the current league I get a free DV8 hooligan. I think I may have it drilled for my left hand. Seems like my right fingers are all wanting to be arthritic lately so I will try it out.

What about your target? Is it what you aim at or the spot next to it?
