    Default stretching

Before league starts, Less than half of the bowlers in this scratch league stretch out. Less than half that do stretch, barely stretch long enough. and less than that group do it properly. Likewise, I know some bowlers do stretch at the office or at home before driving out to the alley.

I am guilty of not stretching enough and/or not doing the proper stretches. Though I do have time to stretch since I bowl second shift, I am lazy when it comes to stretching correctly. But I do stretch before every set, just not correctly.

The stretches I use for my lower body is the same stretches I do before training in Martial arts. There are three moves I do, but you can go to youtube and find specific stretches for bowling. What I use for myself is different, but it's enough to get my legs/hips loose. But for my shoulder, I don't do enough. And the shoulder is most important for performance and longevity. Now, I'm suffering from lack of flexibility and pain.

This is the reason for this post. stretching is as important as doing your one step drill, spare shooting, and just bowling. shoulder rotation, grabbing your throwing elbow above your head and pulling it back, and cross stretch are not enough and are actually the wrong way to stretch your shoulder. If you look on YouTube, You can find the proper ways to stretch your shoulder. That's why I'm bringing back the belt in my bag......I say look on youtube cause I don't know the exact names of these stretches.

We try to get our youth league bowlers to warm up an stretch before league. The younger ones are a lot more enthusiastic than the high school kids. We're not nearly as good at getting them to warm up before clinic on Wednesdays. Worst of all is some of the kids are at the center Monday night when all of us coaches are bowling in the sport league, and they see us just sitting or standing around, not stretching while waiting for the lanes to be turned on for practice.

I try to stretch before I head to the alley. I've recently started using a foam roller after bowling too. It seems to be helping with some of my leg/back issues.

I stretch before I bowl every time and start slowly during warm ups, too. Used to be on league and tourney days I'd do yoga in the morning. I can say that all of this -- along with a good exercise routine -- makes a big difference!

I never stretch before bowling and rarely before tennis.

I never stretch, but I should. During practices e, I'm tight. Perhaps the reason to my slow starts of late.

If the rug was cleaner I'd be more apt to stretch before. I do stretch with the high school team on the lanes before their practice starts but that is 3 hours before mine starts.
