Thread: New shoes

    Default New shoes

We'll my first set of shoes have started to crack across the sole so it's time for an upgrade. I currently have dexter Ricky II' s and they were the cheapest regular shoe at the time they lasted 3 years of minimal use and then league use just the past winter season.

I really wanted to pick up a pair of dexter sst 5's but there no longer made and no one still has my size laying around.

Budget is up to $100 but I would prefer to stay around $60. Would like something that comes in RH style and has a removable slide pad. Not a fan of some of the shoes that are too heavy.

    Any suggestions guys?

Yeah those look like they may be the ticket however I found the pyramid hpx that I might break budget for.

How heavy are the stealths, hopefully nowhere near the dexter sst 8 or 9's

A really good pair of shoes might be worth the investment. Think of it as short term pain (a lot of $$$ up front) for long term gain (long life). My SST8s lasted 8 years and still going strong. I only retired them because I wanted to try the TPU-Xs, which are just as light weight and comfortable as others say. Not everyone did as well as me with their SST8s, but many swear by their 3Gs. Worth considering the more expensive pairs...

The Pyramid HPX and the Brunswick TPU-X are the same shoes, they've just been rebranded with the Pyramid name (There's a Hammer version also). The HPX are cheaper because they don't include the extra soles like the TPU's do.

The TPU's are very comfortable, initially they had a feeling of being narrow. I believe this was do to them being new, The shape of the toe box and how they contoured the shoe to the foots shape. But they have conformed to my foot now and that feeling has gone away.

The toe box on the TPU's is slightly more pointed than the one on the Dexter SST's. Dexter SST's have a somewhat wider toe box. The shoes seem to have a good balance between arch support and flexibility.

Compared to my old Dexters, The TPU-X's feel a lot lighter. Weighing the TPU-X's they are approx. 3-4oz. lighter than my SST 7's.

Suggestion you might want to get the replacement buckskin slide sole for it. The slide sole that comes on the shoe is the SP-08 White Micro fiber as the standard slide. Which most companies are now using as the standard slide.

The S-8 Yellow Leather (Buckskin) used to be the standard sole but was replaced by the White Micro Fiber. Some don't like the WMF as it doesn't slide as much as the old buckskin. (I replaced mine BB.com has the buckskin sole)

In market for new shoes as well. Thinking to get another SST6's, likely the SST6 LZ. All of my bowling buddy's have the TPU's so I want to be different. Have had my SST6's for 8 or so years and they have been fine, just now starting to fall apart.

Have quite a few different soles and heels also for them.

I was able to find a pair of SST 5's for $30 on eBay - also free shipping. Used a few magic erasers and picked up a new slide soul and heal - good to go. For the slide soul I picked up the buckskin Bowl posted above at bowlingball.com during their New Years sale.

I would also mention I had ordered some 3G sport ultras prior to my eBay find. They were a bit stiff and heaven feeling - they use cow leather as opposed to the kangaroo leather that the tour ultras have. Also ran big about have a size. Opted to return.
