Ball For Drier Lanes

I am looking to purchase a ball for when the lanes dry out, especially in a late league, or possibly the 3rd game of my early league. Would I want more of a skid/flip ball or something that hooks early?

My main 2 balls now hook a similar amount, although one is skid/flip, and hooks much later, causing a different entry-angle. The two I have now are the Radical Reax-2 and the Radical Reax Gusto.

I was thinking of either the Radical Grease Monkey Whack(skid/flip) or Grease Monkey Pow(hooks earlier).

The whack is still a pretty strong ball with a big backend not really sure how much stronger the Gusto is I have a friend who has a Whack with a motion hole and it's his biggest backend ball. If you just need something for the third game I would consider the Pow. If your bowling a second shift league or want something for truly dry lanes I would seriously consider the Rack Attacks or the Soul Mate from Brunswick. My oldest daughter and a couple of friends have the Soul Mate the ball still has a nice motion but doesn't seem to ever over react.

I concur about the Soul Mate. I use it weekly in a house known for lots of friction in an evening league where there is only 25' of fresh head oil applied before we start.

Last week I got a Storm Sky Rocket. It was drilled up for the sole purpose of 3rd games. It has not disappointed yet. Got the ball right before Thursday nigh league, used it in warm-ups just to see what it had and to make sure the span and everything was ok. the 3rd game I busted out a 234 with it. First full game I used it. Friday night same thing, 3rd game came around and bowled a 246 with it. Last night I had to use it the 3rd game and went 247 with it. If you just count the 3 games I put on it, it has gone 727. I am going to start using it more in the 2nd game if need be, but I am very pleased with this ball.

To the original poster: how are you plying the lanes? Are you staying on a line or do you move in? It makes a huge difference.

I don't want to get something that is too much like the Gusto, but the PSO I talked to said that for 3rd game type situations you do want skid/flip, in order to combat carry-down.

What I was hoping for was something where I could stay in the same spot, instead of having to move so far left, if the lanes begin to break down. Maybe something I wouldn't necessarily use that much, but that I want to have on hand, just in case.

Just my opinion here but your making a mistake a lot of bowlers make your trying to ball down and stay in the same spot and I just don't think it works very well. I would suggest starting with a less angular ball like the Pow and then move in a little and switch to you Gusto in that 2/3 game transition works better. It allows you to make use of the hold area created by you and the other bowlers.

If your committed to staying where your at on the lanes then the earlier mentioned Rack Attack or Soul Mate is the better choice. When trying to play in the dry you need something that offers control and retains its energy better not more angular. Try thinking about it in terms of surface start off with more surface to get through the oil on the lanes at the start and change to less surface farther into the night as the lanes start to dry up.

I would suggest playing the oil and not the dry. Move in and follow the oil and I am sure you will have better results. I once thought I would never be able to play inside when watching what the pros do. You just have to realize it isn't about having the hand and speed but more of playing what oil is left on the lane. If you want something that is more angular you would be better off playing inside with that ball than staying put.

You could consider a urethane ball. I picked up the Pitch Black for the same reason and love it so far. It is perfect for really short patterns or when the lanes are toast.

I would suggest playing the oil and not the dry. Move in and follow the oil...

Hi! I'm not very familiar with english term. Moving in for a right hander mean that I move right and play closer to the channel?
