I just purchased my first ball on Saturday. A ebonite cyclone 15 pound.
My 8 year old son chose a 10 pound Columbia 300 white dot in a color he liked.
Looking forward to learning the sport and progressing. We joined a father son league that starts in May.
My first and only ball thus far: Ebonite Cyclone. Been in a senior league (63) for a few months and am starting to see the occasional 200+ score.
I'm more than anxious to try something different, just to learn what other balls can do. I do think that the Cyclone was definitely the right place to start.
Now, what to get next....?
Haywire, Cyclone Gamerbreaker (limited release) & Vintage Danger zone(sweet piece).
In my bag: Roto Grip Haywire, Ebonite Cyclone Gamebreaker, Brunswick danger zone vintage, Brunswick C-system Maxxed out and Columbia WD. High Game 300 (x3) high series 790...still searching for the 800.
Have fun with father/son league. Always a good time when you spend time at the lanes with family
I (and many others) usually start with Cyclone or the Tropical Breeze. Pretty much standard first ball purchases. It's a good ball to start learning your hook as it isn't too strong a ball but just enough to get you some hook action.
I would resist the urge to get another ball unless it's a spare ball. More important than racking up balls is to learn proper way to bowl (from approach, release, hook, etc).
