Default Perfection is so close....yet so far

On Sunday, my Thursday night team had to make up a week for New Years, so we went during open bowling hours at 1pm. The place was absolutely packed, and had several birthday parties taking place.

At the start, the lanes seemed to be toast. I went through the entire arsenal in the first game fishing for a line. The first frame was a 2-4-7 that came up heavy, and then was chopped/missed. Also mixed in the first game was a split and washout. But, in the 8th frame, I found my groove.......only ending up with 167.

I settled on standing on 20, throwing at 13 to create an open angle to the pocket using my Rocket. Threw the front 5 with perfection. On ball 6, it finally caught up with me when the ball broke late, coming up ever so slightly heavy for a stone 8. So, the 7th frame I 1.5 boards left a bit but kept my target the same to try to take a more shallow line to the pocket......and ended up with the same result. I then went a full 2 boards left of my original stance, keeping the same target, and struck all the way until my last ball for a 267 (left a 3-pin on a light hit).

Last (third game), again start out with the front 5. Shots 1-3 were perfect. Shot 4 came up a tick heavy, so I moved my feet a board right. Frame 5 was another heavy shot that carried, so I moved 2 boards inside with my feet, and one board inside with my target. Shot 6.......ugh. A 4-7-10. I actually nearly made it, too. The rest of the game was a mix of strikes and 7-pins, ending with a 225 (659 series).

Game 2, though not my personal best score, was truly the closest I ever came to a 300. I missed on 3 shots, but felt like any of the 3 could've carried. All in all, a good day--I'll take a 650 series anytime.

So, my question to the all knowing board is: What do you think of my adjustments? Does that sound reasonable?

I didn't feel like a ball change was necessary. The Urethane was biting way too hard (tried to start with that), and the Bad Intentions seemed to get way too much early hook because the heads were toast. Watching the roll of my entire arsenal the first game, the Rocket by far seemed to have the best overall reaction.

    Two observations:

    1. Do you consider the low RG's of your bowling balls? If you do, the fact that the Rocket worked the best should not surprise you.
    2. If the lanes are "toast," why are you standing on the big dot?

I'm with Rob on this one. If the lanes are burnt, the first thing I'll lean on is high RG, and about 5 boards further left.

1: I do consider it--the Rocket having the best ball reaction isn't a total surprise. This is an area I'm still learning.

2: I started out with my right foot on the center dot because I wasn't aware the lanes were toast--in fact, I was under the impression that they were oiled because they were held for us--we were supposedly the first to throw on them that day. I ended up making an adjustment 5 boards right.

You are a lefty, correct? The leaves and adjustments make a lot more sense that way

Yessir! I am indeed lefty for bowling, golf, football, and baseball.

    Basketball and shooting I'm righty.

    I also write righty.

    Basically, I'm all screwed up.

    I'm the other way.

Write, brush teeth, eat using LEFT
    Throw and kick using RIGHT

Basically LEFT for Precision, RIGHT for POWER

Glad to hear there's someone else out there like me. My friends in elementary school used to laugh at me a bit.

I can write lefty, although it doesn't feel natural and is very sloppy. In my baseball days, I tried to switch hit, but that didn't turn out so well.

FWIW, I also kick lefty and if I'm one handing some sort of ball, can do it equally well with both hands.
