Dry Conditions Ball??

I've been struggling on lanes lately as my speed has decreased and my revs have sort of increased.

The lanes I play on now are older and transition rather quickly. My solid cover Lethal Revolver is virtually useless on these lanes. I have to increase my speed too much to keep it right of the headpin...and when I do, it usually is burnt up before it hits the pocket...then I don't carry.

I've been starting out with the Dark Encounter...hand polished...to give the 2.50 RG ball a little more length.

But once lanes get too broken down...and I start getting left of 15 at the arrows...start getting out near 30 with my feet...that ball just doesn't seem to work...I gotta be very precise and it's hit or miss on carry.

I've been using the Loaded Revolver a lot...it goes much longer with the 2.547 RG and pearl cover...and still has a decent "bite" at the backend. But, same problem as above with the DE...once I start getting too far left...I lose my shot.

So, I've been thinking maybe I need to add a drier oil ball...something that will give me some more length...allow me to stay right of 15...and still have something left for carry.

The recommendation I was given was a 900Global Cardinal Boost:

900G CBoost: Pearl, 2.54 RG, 0.043 diff., 2000 polished, PerfectScale 168.2.

I also have seen good things from people throwing Cyclones:

Ebonite Cyclone: Pearl, 2.53 RG, 0.053 diff., 4000 polished, PerfectScale 167.2.

And then, looking through the "Closet of Destiny"...I realized I have the following (courtesy of BB.com) option:

Brunswick Vintage Gold Rhino Pro: Pearl, 2.544 RG, 0.048 diff., 500 polished, PerfectScale 170.8.

So I'm kinda torn. Not sure about 900G...but it probably is the weaker of the 3...and'll give me the biggest difference from what I have now.

The Cyclone is a cheap option...with a nice kick...but in terms of specs...it's not much different than the Loaded Revolver I already have. The biggest difference being the Brunswick cover (tends to roll sooner) and the PerfectScale of 204.8.

Then there's the Rhino Pro...which is a great option because it's free. And it should...SHOULD behave like the Melee Jab....which worked well for me until I gave it away....but should allow me to play even drier conditions. I'm not sure though. The Brunswick covers just hook sooner...maybe a non-Brunswick would give me more separation.

I use the roto grip Hectic on similar conditions and the ball is great.

The LT 48 is my go to ball when the lanes dry out. It is the ball that I use more than any other at virtually every center where I bowl.

Thats what I'm worried about. The LT-48 has a higher RG and lower differential...should go further and not react as much as the Gold Rhino Pro. I'm thinking maybe the Rhino Pro is a bit too much...too close to what I already have.

Before you go out and buy a new ball? What balls do you have undrilled in your closet? Maybe you already have something that you can use. Also I think you can make any of the balls you have a dry lane ball, just apply a 4000 grit abralon and polish and keep adjusting the surface until you have the reaction you want.

I talked to the pro shop guy before league play....just to see how much it would cost to get it drilled up.

Man! $55 + $8 for inserts + $17 for the VISE IT piece that goes in the thumb hole. Friggin $80!!

And people wonder why I have so many undrilled bowling balls?? Well, lets see....I have about $2200 invested in equipment...and it'll cost $2400 to drill holes in them and another $150 in thumb inserts (which I already have).

Bummer man.

Wow it cost me 50 for a drilling which includes the inserts and the switch grip thumb (like you I already have my inserts)

I use a RotoGrip UpRoar when the lanes get dry. Very seldom do I run across very dry lanes even in Las Vegas. The way my balls are drilled is 40-50x4x30. The drilling and hand layout allow me to stay behind for more revs. I then change the hand to the side which gives length and with polish less revs, which lets the dry conditions do more.

The Rhino Pro is going to be somewhat similar to the Loaded revolver. Maybe even a little stronger on the back. Brunswick Soulmate, LT-48, or Radical Rack Attack if you want to stay Brunswick. Try a Ride from Storm or if you really want to ball down the Tropical Breeze from storm is about the least aggressive reactive ball on the market.

When the lanes are torched, I usually bring out my Storm Super Natural.
