My guess is 60-75% were over the legal driving limit. In most cases that isn't really drunk though. I don't know many people that bowl in leagues who don't have a little to drink. Many bowl better with a few in them as Jason said relaxes their arm.
All who drink are not equal some drink 2 beers and start slurring words others drink 10 beers and you would think they had only 2 beers. Tolerance is different in everyone.

I've seen a couple thrown while people have been past the legal limit. If you took the drinking out of bowling you wouldn't have any leagues.
I never said that it is said that some people like to drink and bowl. I do it occasionally myself. What is sad is the idea of glorifying some idiot who drinks until he can't stand straight and then bowls a perfect game. Most people don't consider bowling a serious sport anyway, and behavior like this certainly doesn't say anything to prove them wrong.
You don't have to be staggering or falling down to be drunk. My friend would get talkative and laugh a lot. I'm sure if he were to the point of being incapacitated his girlfriend would have never brought him. About the 3rd or 4th frame of his game he said something like "You know, I'm kind of lined up right now, wouldn't it be funny if I shot a 300?"
RobLV1, no one is glorifying anything. Someone asked a question. People are answering the question. I was pissed when I watched that guy shoot 300 while he was plastered. No one here is bragging.
A very large percentage of 300 games are bowled by the same people who have done it before. They have the skill, knowledge and physical game to repeat it. A few drinks would help most bowlers relax and actually do better. The legal limit for most states is .08 maybe higher or lower in your state. It don't take many beers to get to that. It would depend on your size, age and how often you drink. As stated if a person is Drunk there is a lot of difference from a person who is a little tipsy or giggly. It has a lot to do with muscle memory. Repeating something over and over.
