    Default Two day bowling camp

Today was day one of a bowling camp put on by Fred Borden at Stonehedge Lanes in Akron, OH. Two hours of classroom and two hours of lame play while coaches from universities and high schools were helping people. Fred helped me tweak my first couple of steps and get my hinge-style push-away timed up with my second of 5 steps. Needed step 3 to be quicker and longer to get things in time again.
After the tweak, I couldn't miss the pocket and my release was butter-smooth. We weren't keeping score. Had 4 people to a pair and just took turns. One guy from Cleveland had three finger holes in his balls; middle, ring, and pinkie. All had lift inserts in them. Was interesting to watch him try to get a clean release, which was about 50% of the time. Other 50% were tugged left badly.
The second hour I used a different ball with a 500 Abralon surface that's a solid cover stock. Played inside in the oil and swung the ball out to around 7 to see what would happen. Did ok. Was more interested in keeping my timing than anything. Some of my shots were so pure off my hand that I can't wait for tomorrow. Playing on a house shot seemed so easy after an entire summer of Sport-Shot league. Had all kinds of room to play.

That's good news to hear. I think a bowling camp like this would be fun.

Forgot to mention it's all free. Just had to sign up. Fred just wants people to get better at this sport.

He also has other ones coming up for younger bowlers and bowlers with low averages.

Day two is over and done with. Got my timing grooved again. Threw a string of 13 strikes at one point. Felt good to have such a relaxed hand today. See how it translates tomorrow in league.

Fred is one of the true masters of coaching. Now I'm also curious how league goes for you tomorrow. I would bet a lot better than it has the last few weeks.

Did he happen to mention if he was once again USBC certified? At one time the man who implemented the coaching program had a dispute with the USBC over continuing education and as the almighty idiots they stripped his certification. This was a few years ago so I'm hoping somebody in Arlington corrected a horrendous mistake.

Send some down here. My grass is brown as can be even with watering it. Too hot and humid lately.

We had a silver level coach move into our area and start bowling at our center
and he was offering coaching lessons for free for the time being but it did cost
$5.00 to cover the cost of using the lane.

Wow getting free lessons from Fred Borden would be a fantastic deal especially
a two day event like that.
