Did a little open bowling with the girlfriend last Saturday.

    187/223/184

Spent more time just toying with getting a bit more backswing back into my swing. I saw a video of myself a few months back, and noticed backswing barely comes up to 45. Used to be well above parallel when I was a younger man. I'm guessing age and a shoulder surgery have something to do with that. It didn't hurt to try to swing up higher, but man oh man, it's a big timing adjustment.....Last game just kind of ran out of gas, which leads to bad things on what was at best a burn condition.

I am noticing something new. When I started the first game, I got some pretty wicked pain in the base joint of my index finger at the line-up, and then on the through swing. Felt like when you bend your finger the wrong way. At 53, I'm not ruling out arthritis, but the onset of this seems a little sudden. Any opinions?

Fall season opener. Humid as hell.

    215/194/236 = 645

Okay, not a terrible start. The ball I didn't use almost all of last year was the ticket tonight (SureLock). Hit good all night but carry second game was terrible. Ten pins reigned. Two opens on the night (two whiffed 10's). I'll take this if it's a sign that the season improves after this.

We had one guy roll a 780 tonight. I couldn't resist asking him if he thought he could hold his 260 average all year....

Used the Sure Lock, huh? Funny, cause I keep trying to drift away from using this ball only to go back and find success when using it again. Maybe it's the layoff. I find for being such an aggressive ball, it still stays longer and true than a lot of my other balls that aren't necessarily drilled aggressive.

Mine is a pretty standard pin-up drill. I do have the surface polished, so it goes a little longer than the out-of-box finish. This ball was nearly uncontrollable on medium or less oil.

Not by any stretch a good night. 5 opens, ****loads of mistakes, but somehow managed. Only took one point out of three, which is by far what I hate the most. SureLock behaved well tonight, when I was in charge of it. Average at 216.

    Complete. Nuclear. Meltdown.

189/169/160 = 518. One of those night where you just never had it. I saw them oil the lanes, and it looked like the drag started around 42-43 feet, but boy, it played a hell of a lot longer. My SureLock, which has just been abusive the first two weeks, wouldn't move. 8 strikes all night, and 4 of them were in game 1. Miss by a board or two right? Slid right by. Tug it the same amount, right through the nose. Hell, I left a 3-6-7-10 split, and picked off the 3-6-7, leaving the 10 wiggling. It was just that kind of night. Highest series in the building last night was a 626. Manager said someone turned off the air the night before, and no one turned it back on until around 4 in the afternoon, and it's been seriously humid in Milwaukee the past few days. Amazing what effect that has on conditions. Average tanked to 201.

Okay, so a little bit of a comeback after last week's debacle.

204/194/200 = 598. Not quite sure what's going on with the lane prep. Highest series on our pair was about 620-ish, but right next door (you know, the pair the manager was bowling on), it was raining 7's. 3 opens the whole night, but not a lot of strikes. Just can't seem to get the ball to move like it did the first two weeks. The SureLock is three years old, but didn't get a heck of a lot of miles on it last year, so I'm leaning away from an upgrade for the time being. Average stuck at 201.

A ray of light stuck in the middle of medium....

197/279/179 = 655. Had a pretty good line the first game, but just couldn't get enough carry, and then whiffed a 10 pin. Second game was just blind. Only hiccups was a slight tug in the 7th, leaving a 4 pin. Last game, I sat there telling everyone on my team to start moving left, cuz they were transitioning quickly. The only person who didn't listen to that advise was me. Once I finally moved, I ran 4 in a row, but the 3 splits before that killed the game. Live and learn. Average up to 204.

Had no idea how this night was going to go. When we walked in the manager was still oiling the lanes. With a spray bottle and a floor sweep. Lane machine broke the night before. Turns out, Todd is pretty good at this. It was a little grabbier than the normal Tuesday shot, but it held pretty good, as long as you didn't get too far outside, where it would nearly cross the whole lane. First time this year I've shot 3 200 games, and smoked my opponent by 160 pins in total. Average at 206.
