For youth bowlers (not including scholastic or collegiate competition), you cannot participate in a USBC Youth event unless you pay the $4 national fee.

There is also a $5 participation fee for youths to participate in an adult tournament which subjects them to USBC rules, but are not eligible for any USBC awards.

For individual adults that decide not to be USBC sanctioned, there are 4 issues. 1) If you're interested bowling in 1 league, you won't be allowed to participate (if the league is sanctioned). 2) If a person wants to participate in a tournament and they do not pay USBC dues, they cannot participate. However, you can join at the tournament site but you have to pay local, state & national dues. 3) By not being sanctioned you'll have to bowl whatever the scratch requirement is, usually 220 or 225. 4) Leagues who decide not to be sanctioned do not get bonded by the USBC, which means, that, if you are transporting money to the bank, you get robbed, or have somebody who ends up being a thief, you are responsible for the entire amount that is missing.

I understand some of the sentiments by those who do not want to be part of the USBC, but the cons out weigh the benefits in the overall scheme of things.
I agree and absolutely hate the idea of leaving the USBC for our kids. I also really hate the idea of the mismanaged association that our state men's group is having control over our purse strings too. With the current agreement they are trying to force down our throats is a combined account and 30/30/40 board split with the 30/30 being the youth and women's board members which looks even worse if you consider that over half of the women's board is married to spouses on the men's board. The situation is bleak at best.

WOW. Tough spot to be in.

You might want to contact USBC in Texas to see if they can offer any advice, if you haven't done so already.

We've been in contact with the regional rep and I think there is a meeting between the regional rep and the president's of all three associations. I'm not sure what's going to happen as regardless what's said in any meeting there is no way the youth board will carry a vote that involves combining the youth money and control of the youth funds to another board that has deficient accounts.

OK the original poster was referring to local assn's not Men, Womens and Kids in the same area. He wanted to know why little 2 center assns. were allowed to not join a larger near by assn. Now he has to pay in all 3 different assns. When they should all be the same Association. When it went to USBC in 2003 from ABC and WIBC and what ever the kids were they tried to get everyone to merge Egos got in the way and it never happened. State assn's. are only charging about a $1 and run a mens and womens tournament.

Sorry if we sidetracked the op. Here most of the associations are based around our larger city's. Which are about 60 miles apart and usually cover 3-5 bowling alleys. As ford said the local dues are only $1-$3 so I've never worried about it
