I can only assume he starts with the heavier one and then goes to the lighter with re logic he can throw it harder?
Someone who is my team in league bowls with the same model balls, but they are different weights, 14 and 15 lbs. I don't get it. Wouldn't it mess up your game? He uses them both.

I would say if he's hooking too much with the 15 he will go to the 14 and throw with more speed?

If they're drilled the same there's probably not a lot of difference. However, one might be pin up and the other is pin down.

Both drilled the same. He went to the 15 later as he was missing the 7 pin due to to much hook with the 14.

I've seen 14 lb balls not carrying the 5 either on what seemed to me to be a good ball, I would use a 14 if I wasn't afraid of the lack of carry throwing 12mph

One of the very few things that coaches and PSO's agree on is that using balls of different weights is a really bad idea. Even a one pound difference will create significant timing issues. Just this past Saturday while coaching the Junior Gold bowlers, I noticed a young lady who had done extremely well in a tournament the week before, struggling to pick up even the easiest spares. I talked to her dad who told me that she had just changed from 14 lb to 15 lb balls this week, but that her new spare ball wasn't ready yet, so she was using 15 lb. strike balls with her 14 lb spare ball. I suggested going back to the 14 lb strike balls until the new spare ball was ready. She immediately went back to the 14 lb. strike ball and never missed another spare over the next two games. Different weights = really bad idea!
