on BB.com this is what I use..... the fanatic is rated...
    Performance High Performance[8]

Storm rocket ship, (if that's what you are referring to is rated...
    Performance Advanced Performance[6

do these numbers mean the aggressiveness (spelling) of the ball?

Coverstock I'm not sure about, it's my very general understanding that a pearl coverstock will react sooner than a resin or hybrid once they hit the "dry" part of the lane.
Do you have the Fanatic or The Fanatic BTU? Two different balls

The rocket has a fairly strong coverstock with a solid mid range core. I think you'll be going down in balls with the fanatic

No that is why we don't use descriptions of that nature to judge balls. It can be vary misleading. The fanatic is a great angular lower oil/ to lower medium oil ball but as far as aggressiveness goes it's on the lower end of the scale. The ball really does have a nice backend and I really like mine but it wont handle the oil something like the rocket will

The Fanatic cover is 500/royal compound/royal shine not 500. In other words the ball is at 500 then they apply rubbing compound to reduce the surface then they put polish over that. Not a huge difference in surface from the Rocket but the Fanatic is less or the same at best surface wise. The cover on the Fanatic is weaker than the R2S on the Rocket. You could probably drill the Fanatic to be about the same as the rocket but It would be hard to get it to be more than the rocket without changing the surface significantly.

What you might consider is resurfacing the Rocket to 3k or so and putting a stronger drill on the Fanatic. It would make the Rocket handle a little more oil and be a little earlier and the Fanatic replace the Rocket spot in the bag. Basically the rocket has the stronger core/cover it's easier to make is more aggressive than it is the Fanatic. If you do this I would suggest trying the rocket with the new surface before drilling the Fanatic. Just to be sure you like it.

Thank you, I never really knew what that royal compound business actually meant

new from LOUVIT quote's didn't work right so I copied and pasted....

Hate to be a bit off topic, but if the bb.com aggressive rate isn't what it used how do you determine how strong a ball is as far as hook and carry. Ex..my track is rated a 4 by BB.com and my Phaze is an 8. Does that mean anything? where do I get the true facts on balls....This may help others also.

The way to get the true facts on balls is to learn about the four factors that influence ball reaction: core, cover material, surface, and layout. Once you accept the fact that all balls with the same type of cover material, i.e.., reactive resin, will hook the same amount in terms of the angle of the change of direction when the ball hooks, based on the bowler's release, and the difference is not how much they hook, but how soon they hook, you will be able to see that any scale that attempts to compare bowling balls is pure fiction. They are all based, at least in part, on marketing rhetoric provided by the manufacturers.

If you want to start understanding the actual components that determine ball reactions, I suggest that you go to my website, www.Modern-Bowling.com, and read the article entitled, "The Elegant Solution," in the section on bowling balls. There is no charge for anything on the website.

The Fanatic is 500 plus Royal Compound and Royal shine so it has less surface than the Rocket. One option would be to drill them the same and put the Rocket at either 1 or 2K abralon which would give it more "teeth" for the fresh. The 1500 finish on the Rocket is achieved by sanding it 500,1000,2000,4000 and then hitting it with Storm #2 polish which has grit in it to get it to 1500. I would start the Rocket at 2k and take it down to 1k if you need more
Still love the game but had to quit because of my left leg amptation
