    For a starter ball, I would recommend an Ebonite Cyclone. I think the ball is pretty versatile. The Rhino is a good ball too.

    Lefty's usually have a natural hook, if at all possible have a good bowler or even the pro shop guy's watch you before you buy...IMO

    If open bowling is your thing light to medium light equipment is a good place to start. Everybody makes good stuff in that price points. Brunswick Rhino / Fanatic, Storm Match / Ride, Ebonite Cyclone, Hammer Viral are all great balls.
