I don't bowl in tournaments, I bowl in a social league. But i think all the social leagues around the world keep the sport going. Even bowlers like us need a good ball to bowl with.

Joining a league for the first time in 20 years and could use a new ball. The old black Columbia 300 just doesn't turn like it used too

Personally a ball that reads early does seem to help, especially with me being a newer bowler.

question, why do they have certain balls that are called solid? Is it because there is not a core and is just a solid ball with a reactive shell?

For this particular DV8 ball, solid refers to not having a pearl cover stock.

Except for plastic balls, all bowling balls have a core to them. Some are symmetrical, some are asymmetrical, and there is one ball on the market, Radical's The Fix, can be both. If it's drilled pin up, it's symmetrical. Pin down it's asymmetrical.

The Freakshow Pearl and the Freakshow Solid are both excellent entry level balls. But they have been used by pros, depending on the lane conditions.

I'm in for the win also, got a guy on our team still throwing a house ball and is frustrated with the pin action. This ball would be great to transition into throwing with a hook. Looking forward to passing on my winnings to him. Lets Bowl!
