Default Trouble with the ball handling

Hello all!! I have a question maybe someone can answer. I've recently come back into the bowling community at my local alley after not bowling on league for 5 years. I'm having an issue with release on some balls. Most of the time I have consistent throws, but too frequently my hand rolls over the top not giving a great leave or hard hit . Can anyone offer advice on how to correct this malfunction? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe you are trying to hard to make the ball hook that is why
you're coming over the top of it and the reason why it doesn't want
to hit to hard sometimes is it is more of a spinner type of roll instead
of a side or forward roll.

Try keeping your hand directly behind the ball and keeping your wrist
straight all the way through the approach and to the release point it
will give you more of a forward roll and better hitting power.

As you learn to stay behind the ball then you can practice on maybe
cupping your wrist a little and turning your fingers (1/4) that's one
quarter turn at the point of release to get more of a side roll on the
ball and still retain good energy for when it hits the pins.

Here's a link to a pretty darn good video on hand positioning during release: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSOorSbT0mI
Here's another one demonstrating releases: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fX9_pbNDAaQ
    Hope these help you...

It's only some of the time I have this bad release, I'm not consciously over rotating and wonder if my wrist just needs some weight training. Also, I've tried cupping the ball from the start, much like Chris Barnes; so I'm able to get more rotation but still have a solid straight forward release.

Check your grip on your ball I struggled for 3 years due to a ball that didn't match my hand. I would throw good shots and others just fall off. It perplexed me for years untill I went back to my old ball

I try to make sure my ring finger is pointed to my target when I come through the ball which keeps my hand under the ball.

It sounds like you are chicken winging the ball to get revs. You release the ball like shaking hands. Let your fingers do their job. They will create revs.

Make sure you are not squeezing the ball-

if everything is good then work on your fundamentals while keeping your hand behind the ball.
