Thread: Brunswick T Zone Defects

    Default Brunswick T Zone Defects

On Monday I went to the US Open Championships and had to weigh all of my bowling balls before hand.

My spare ball, the T Zone, did not pass the weight requirements and I had to get it fixed ASAP if I wanted to use it, because the weight at the finger holes was 3oz off spec, and it was off spec by 1 1/2oz to the left of the finger holes.

They had to drill a weight hole on the left and make the finger holes even deeper, and it barely made weight.

Come to find out, the hockey puck core has a defect in it, and it seems to be a common problem.

The ball is going to be replaced, but this was an odd thing to happen. I'm just glad I got there soon enough to get it fixed! lol

    What's the defect, exactly?

There's a defect with the hockey puck core that creates an imbalance in weight, because plastic balls are drilled over the label or serial number, not near a pin like others are drilled.

What exactly this defect is, I do not know. Even as myself and my PSO are Brunswick staffers, we never heard of the defect until Monday evening.

So basically it was a 2nd it had a miss marked cg or excessive tw.

If the PSO had weighed the ball up before drilling he would have caught it, he should have checked the statics after drilling though.

That the thing when your going to nationals, always have your balls checked before you go. That way you can get stuff fixed or replaced and not have to rush to get it done.

Considering it's a plastic spare ball, nobody, including myself, ever thought of this happening and it had everybody befuddled that day including the guys from the USBC that were weighing the equipment. They said that have seen balls with weight issues, but never a plastic spare ball.

Even when I told them on the re-weigh what the issue is, they were like, really? Wow!

And the weird thing, is, the weight hole is a bit of a ways from the finger holes and that the drilling angle actually started to cut into the finger hole.

All of my other equipment came up perfectly, and only one (now 2) has a weight hole.

I'm just glad I like to be early whenever I go some place, and in this case, the 2 hours was the perfect thing.
