    Default Amateur Bowling Tour

I think I've seen a post or two on this. Are these tournies on the up and up? I see a few flyers going around lately for a tournament in Waukegan.

They're here in Vegas as well. I've heard a lot about them, but none of it being good.

    I've bowled ABT before.

It's not a bad format if you are a decent bowler with a bunch of cash to throw around. I was going to do a tournament this month...a couple weeks ago...but my membership was up and by the time I renewed my membership, paid to enter, then paid the "Mega"...it would have been $160. Top prize was $1500.

I've made the cashing round the last two times I bowled in the ABT...but I've never came close to the top 25% of the field...so I've won maybe $20 and $35.

The downside is, if you bowl in lots of tournaments...you get "bonus pins" that are added to your handicap. If you only bowl sporadic tournaments here and there...you end up bowling higher average bowlers with more handicap than you have. It's also dumb to have the "Mega". If you don't pay the $40 "Mega...you win $500 instead of $1500...which is just a way to force people to pay an extra $40.

Is it "bad"? No. The people running it are pretty legit, at least around here. It's more legit than the ABTA or that high $$$ tournament some guys tried to start in Reno. But, whenever money and handicap are involved, there's bound to issues.
