    Default Octane Carbon

This ball is the newest introduction into the Octane line of bowling balls. However, the MOTIV Octane Carbon features a totally new Injector core and Agitator MXR cover. It's super clean through the front of the lane and OMG can you say strong backend reaction. And of course, it has the continuation that has come to be expected from MOTIV bowling balls.

It will be a great fit in your bag on light to medium oil. It’s clean, strong and continuous. What else could you want from a ball.

My Octane Carbon is laid out with the pin above the ring fingers, the CG basically stacked (just a slight shift right) and has no extra hole. This ball is not afraid to be thrown right and have plenty of backends to recover. This ball is clean, as would be expected from most pearlized balls, but does not have that allergic to oil issue that you’ll find in a lot of pearl bowling balls. I can see this being my go to ball on the burn when opening the lane up becomes required.

    REACTION

The Octane Carbon is new, new, and new. As always, the Carbon has a brand new cover. This new cover is wrapped around a new core. Combine these two together and you get a new shape in the Motiv Line. The Octane Carbon is the longest and most angular ball we've ever produced. This ball is extremely clean through the heads and midlane with an explosive response to friction. As you will be able to see in my ball motion video, it makes a strong move off the friction.

    COMPARISONS

I featured two Octane Carbon balls in my video. There is a pin down (75 x 4.50" x 75) layout as well as a long pin up layout (60 x 5.25" x 40). The pin down Octane Carbon was compared to an original Paranoia and a Graffiti Tag. The Carbon is cleaner than the Paranoia while being about 3-5 boards weaker. I wasn't able to get the Paranoia to the spot while playing the same line as the Octane Carbon. It would grab earlier which ended up resulting in going through the face. I found the Octane Carbon to be significantly stronger than the Graffiti Tag without sacrificing any length (roughly 4-6 boards stronger). I wasn't able to get the Tag to face up when playing the same line as the Octane Carbon. While they both have somewhat similar shapes, the Tag wasn't able to read the lane nearly as well as the Carbon which is understandable. The Tag is made for light oil and is better suited for when the lanes have transitioned. With my ball motion video being filmed on a fresh pattern, there was still too much volume. The Octane Carbon was able to read the lane, stay on line, and go through the pins with energy.

The long pin up Octane Carbon balls in my video were compared to a Chronic Paranoia and a Venom Cobra. The Octane Carbon is much cleaner than the Chronic Paranoia. Even more so than the original Paranoia. When playing the same line as the Octane Carbon, the Chronic Paranoia read the lane way too early. With it being 4-5 boards stronger than the Octane Carbon, the Chronic crossed over to the Brooklyn side of the head pin. The Venom Cobra is also earlier than the Octane Carbon. I wasn't able to get the 10 pin out from the same line as the Carbon because the Cobra was burning up just a bit too early from the same line.

    SUMMARY

This ball is something different than I am used to seeing from Motiv. Over the years, I have had issues with fast/angular equipment. With my tilt, I got used to seeing angular balls either go 60 feet, or dead left at about 30. I can happily say this is no longer the case. The Primal Fear was one of the first angular balls that fit my game and fit it rather well. The Octane Carbon has continued upon that trend. I shot 300 the first game out of the box with my long pin Carbon. I can't ask for a better result than that. If you are looking for a ball that clears the heads with ease with an angular motion off the backend, this is your ball. I am thoroughly impressed with the Octane Carbon.
