My first experience with grips was with my old Brunswick LT48 soft rubber ball around 1981. I had issues with blood blisters on my finger tips. Once I switched to the inserts, I had no problems.
Years later when I purchased my first reactive resin ball, the PSO provided the inserts with power lifts. I used the ball that way for a couple of years and it seemed okay. Got some lessons along the way and eventually the coach asked if he could change my grips. I went with it. Apparently I was hanging on to the ball a bit too long with the power lifts and had a much smoother release with plain ovals. I kind of wish I had them from the start. Recently bought some clear colored grips and got the ones with oval/power oval. I'm going to see how they feel before I have them glued in. Someone said that the clear versions are a little softer than colored types. I'd like to see if the power oval on my ring finger feels good or not.
My suggestion would be to test any grips you might think you'd like or at least use the PSO's suggestion and understand why he's recommending one type over another. Good luck...
