    Default John Jowdy Scholarship

    January 08, 2009

The John Jowdy Scholarship Fund is awarded annually to a graduating high school senior who is actively involved in the sport of bowling. All interested parties must submit a completed application and required attachments. Award recipients will be selected based upon information provided through a complete application form and they will be required to forward transcripts upon official notification of award. The amount of the scholarship award is $500 per year, for up to 4 years of post-secondary education. The award recipients MUST maintain a 3.0 grade point average (4.0 system) to retain the yearly scholarship.

John Jowdy was inducted into the PBA Hall of Fame in 1988 and the American Bowling Congress Hall of Fame in 2001 for meritorious service to the game. He has been an instructor to many PBA champions and hundreds of others, a Columbia 300 sales representative and a bowling writer. Easily identifiable at PBA Tour sites, he has attended more PBA tournaments than all but a few players and PBA staff members. The San Antonio native has provided coverage of the Tour to many of the nation’s leading bowling publications, including Bowling Digest.

Applications are reviewed by a committee made up of representatives from the Bowling Writers Association of America and Columbia 300.
