How much damage is acceptable before you need a ball resurfaced? I have some deep gouges where my palm would be, and just minor scratches on the track...

I would say any time the damage effects the ball performance. Light scratches generally aren't going to cause any issues and are unavoidable. If chunks are missing. long deep gouges or cracks then repair is needed. Especially cracks which could grow if not repaired. A PSO should be able to tell you if a full resurface, simple repair or if a mere scotch brite or polish on a ball spinner is needed to fix up your ball.

Arsenal consists of mainly 15# Motiv balls, I have several now and they are the bomb! Too many to list and carry. Still have a couple Hammer balls and my AMF RPM Swirl (old reliable) & 25+yr old Linds worth a mention
Currently 535+ Rev Rate @ 19 MPH (This probably needs to be updated, I think I've toned each down a click or two these days. I'm letting the ball do more of the work as I get older.)

My Hammer Badass got its first real battle scar in 4 1/2 years of use
last Thursday night and several other balls got damaged also I got
lucky as it wasn't in my track and thank goodness for that.

I will probably bring it home and put it on the ball spinner in the next
week or so after the league wraps up and see if I can sand/buff it out
hopefully it will come out easily without having to take it in and have
a complete cut down resurface done on it.

You say several balls got damaged, all last Thursday night? Were they all on your pair you were on? If so I hope someone reported it to the counter so they can investigate the issue. If it's a deep battle scar the center should fix it for you or pay for the repair at your PSO.

Yes all of the damage to the balls was on our pair of lanes on Thursday night
I think about 4 balls got gashes in them and we did tell the owner about it.

He had the mechanic look at what was causing it and then after that we had
no more damage I didn't find out what was causing it though yeah I might
ask them to repair it for me if I can't do it myself.
