Hitting up aka: Lift
It's when you release the ball late , putting lift on the ball releasing it in an upward direction instead of out on the lane. It can cause the ball to over react, hook too early, bad rotation.
In the past a lot of time players put lift or hitting up was done to make the balls hook, but with todays balls it makes them erratic.
