Topography changes with the season, usually during the summer months with the heat and humidity the lanes may swell in some areas so the lanes may appear wetter since the ball is going uphill in some spots. Also end pairs usually end pairs are affected more since they are closer to the outside environment than middle pairs.

Just looked at my stats so far. After 4 weeks of bowling (16 games) my last game is my highest average by far.

    Game 1: 181.5

    Game 2: 169

    Game 3: 176

    Game 4: 196.5

Big difference. I'm not doing anything different so it must be the lanes coming to me? Last summer after 4 weeks I was averaging 160.18 so definitely better. Towards the end of our fall league this year I was averaging about mid 180's. I finished the previous fall league at 173 so 4 weeks in I was 19 pins lower and I ended that summer league at 177 so hope that trend continues....lol

So-so night. Bowled almost exactly my average. Game 2 was real good but game 3 was real bad. We won 3 of 4 and went 8-3 on the night and moved up a few spots.

So with only 20 games in my averages will move quite a bit. Last week my game 2 was my worst by far but after a 215 in game 2 last night and a 145 in game 3 that has changed...lol. Game 3 is now my worst but not by much but game 4 is by far my best

EDIT: just checked my stats and I left 5 6 pins and 4 4 pins. Those were my 2 most common leaves last night. Covered all 5 6 pins and 2 of the 4 4 pins.

My single pin opens were 0/1 on the 2 pin, 2/4 on the 4 pin, 2/3 on the 5 pin, and 1/2 on the 7 pin. Definitely shouldn't have missed most of those

    Game 1: 180.2

    Game 2: 178.2

    Game 3: 169.8

    Game 4: 195

What a rough night. Definitely one to forget. Teammate picked up his new Squatch. Said he liked the ball but he struggled too. Doesn't help that our opponents bowled probably their best games all season. We bowl 4 games, 2 against one team then move lanes and 2 more against another team. Only 2 bowlers per team. So my average coming in was 180 and teammate was 185 (his 'normal' average is about 200). I rolled a 170 and him a 174. Our opponents rolled 204 and 256. Their averages are 181 and 210 respectively. They won by 96 (they were spotting us 20). Game 2 I rolled 193 and teammate was 190. Our opponents rolled 160 and 226. We won by 17.

So we moved lanes and went up against our next opponents. Third game I rolled 167 and teammate was 147. Opponents rolled 188 and 266 (their averages were 198 and 199 respectively). They were spotting us 25. They won game 3 by 115. Game 2 I rolled 183 and my teammate rolled 190. We both beat our averages. Opponents rolled 193 and 245. Yeah, the one opponent rolled a 1001 series tonight with a 199 average. We lost game 4 by 40. So we went 2-8 tonight.

I tried everything. Got no breaks all night. Tried the Conspiracy and the Kingpin. Played inside and outside. Varied my speed by about 2 MPH and everything in between. Tried pinky in tight, pinky spread wide, and pinky tucked. I wasn't as consistent as I should have been but even when I hit the pocket I left a pin somewhere. Not sure what else I could have done. About the only thing I didn't try was the Hammer BWG. Lanes seemed a little dry. The Conspiracy never showed a drop of oil all night but the Kingpin showed a little. Most of the night I targeted the 10 board at the arrows. I would rather target the 6 or 7 board but my ball just wouldn't come in. In the last game I moved out there near the end and threw a 3 bagger but early on that line wouldn't work. I had my pinky tucked most of the night too.

Teammate was inconsistent all night but left alot of 10 pins with good pocket hits. He said he liked the new Squatch but just struggled. He missed most of his 10 pins and he usually gets those. One of the top bowlers watched him and said it looked like he was trying to force the ball.

BOOM! 863 4 game series tonight. Best average since I have came back from my 16 year break. Still not up to where I was back then but getting closer. The lanes are much drier this summer so used my BWG all night with a 4000 finish. Ball worked great all night with a very small adjustment.

Decent night but still frustrated with how it ended. Bowled the owners daughter and her teammate the first 2. Split that and got total pins so 3-2 there. Oddly we lost game 2 even though we were 85 pins over our average. I had a 234 and my teammate had a 224. Our averages were 185 and 187. We lost by 5 pins. The owners daughter and her teammate average 205 and 192 and they rolled 258 and 225 that game. Unreal...lol. 2nd set we bowled against the owner and his teammate. We won the first one by about 70 and got 1 bonus point (1 point for winning by 60 and 2 bonus points for winning by 100). 2nd game against them I missed the 4 pin in the 10th in a tight game and thought we had lost. Guy on the other team opens in the 10th too and we win by 4 pins so went 9-2 tonight.
First game I couldn't get to the pocket. Tried the Conspiracy and the Black Widow Gold. Moved feet left, moved target right, slowed my speed. In the end I had my pinky tucked and targeting the 5 board. Ended up with the Conspiracy in games 2 and 3 but left 2 pocket 7's at the end of game 3 so switched to the BWG for game 4. That was the right decision as I started game 4 pretty hot but then missed too many spares. All in all it was a good night and my average is up 7 pins in my last 2 weeks of bowling (180 to 187). Even more impressive is my teammate bought a new Squatch a few weeks ago. So far with it he is averaging 201 after 12 games and his first night with it he struggled getting used to it. His last 8 games with it he is averaging 214.375. His average when he got the ball was 181. He is now at 191. He really likes that ball...lol.

Feels good to have 2 good weeks in a row. My last 2 weeks I am averaging 208.125 (currently at 187). I think I'm finally starting to understand what ball does what and why I would use one over the other in certain conditions. I think that is the biggest reason for my recent improvement. When I quit in 2002 I was averaging 193 with a Cobalt Rhino on wood lanes. I figured after a month or two I'd be over 200. Well it has been about 18 months and I'm finally getting close to my old average and hope to pass it by the end of the summer league. I ended the first winter league back at 173, then last summer at 177, then this past winter league at 179 and now at 187. I still need to get a little more consistent with my spares but thinking I can average over 200 in the winter league this year.

It's funny. When I left in 2002 the internet was still pretty new and there was no Google. You didn't have access to the information we do now. I showed up and bowled and never understood why I might have a bad game. Just figured it was me. Now with forums like this and youtube it makes it much easier to understand why things happen and how to fix them. I'm even getting my teammate up to speed and he is extremely old school and would never make more than about a 2 board adjustment and if that didn't work then he would just accept the fact that it would be a bad night. He used his bowling balls forever and never (literally never) wiped them off or cleaned them. We have resurfaced 2 of his balls and he just bought a new Squatch and he sees the difference in all 3 balls now and even cleaned them today...lol

Well all-in-all I guess it wasn't a bad night but I struggled. I wasn't supposed to bowl tonight but went down to support my team. Pulled in and teammate called and said his car wouldn't start and asked if I could bowl. Sure but my bad was at home. So rush home to get it and get back. First set we bowled against the PSO and the league President (216 and 209 averages). We split with them but they got total pins. 2nd set we bowled against the owners son and his teammate (teammate had a 300 last week) (221 and 219 averages). Both of these teams are ahead of us in the standings. We all struggled tonight. PSO had a 278 but followed that with a 164. His teammate had a 200 then 221. I rolled a 169 and teammate rolled a 181 (187 and 197 averages respectively). 2nfd game I rolled 170 and teammate had 193. Both of us were below our averages but we still won by 10. 2nd set I rolled 200 and 181 and teammate rolled 188 and 170. We were both below our averages but considering who we bowled I'll take a 5-5 night bowling that bad.

I could not hit the pocket all night. Used the BWG the first 3 games (tried the Conspiracy a few frames in game 1 but it just wouldn't come in). Game 3 tried moving in to the 10 board but couldn't even get close to my mark and kept tugging the ball. Seemed like my timing was off all night. Not sure but just didn't feel right all night. Game 4 went to the Conspiracy but still had trouble finding the pocket. I moved 2 boards left to get the ball to the pocket as I kept hitting light most of the night except when I tugged the ball.

Overall I should be happy with averaging 180 tonight but after my last 2 weeks it was a disappointment. We were in 12th out of 39 teams but I'm sure we dropped tonight. Seems like the top 15 teams are getting 7-12 points a night so getting 5 isn't good. Last week we got 7 or 8 and only gained 1 spot. On the positive side the top 20 teams make rolloffs and there are only a few weeks left but the standings are pretty tight. Next week we bowl the 3 place team the 1st set then the 1st place team the 2nd set so it doesn't get any easier.

Actually looking at your scores you converted single pin spare very well this night. I know not striking like you want is a disappointment but when your cleaning up afterwards on a slow night is often more impressive to me
