Thread: Do the old rules of spare shooting still apply?

My advice is this: if you bowl, or want to bowl in tournaments on tough shots, go straight at everything. If you bowl exclusively on a house shot, hook at everything that you can shoot off of your strike target. Just figure out how many boards you have to move per pin. This number can vary, for example, I move five right for the two, eight, or, two-eight, but I move 7 right for the 4-8. I use the plastic spare ball off of the five board for the four or the seven. As long as I set the ball down in the dirt outside of ten, I have no problem picking these up. I do this because my health problems limit my ball speed, and it is much easier for me to throw it slow and hook it at these pins. The only pin I every have any problem with is the ten; only because with my 10 mph ball speed, I have to come straight up the back of the ball or it will hook past it and miss left. Even so, I'm right about 90% on ten pins.

I'd take 90% on 10-pins every day and twice on Saturday!

I just use the rule of threes (3/6/9). But i used the 3/6/9 for left sides and 4/8/12 for right sides rule for a while

This is exactly what I am working on over the summer. Just about everything will be converted with spare ball aside from the leaves that may benefit from a bit of hook like the 3-6-9-10.
