    Exclamation Spammers

I have been on here only a short time, but already I am seeing so many spammers that slipped through the cracks and that the mods somehow missed. Many are vulgar, and many others are just advertisements. What they mainly seem to be doing is joining, and then not even posting, but putting several links in their profile advertising what they want to. Some very likely contain viruses in the links. Where can these people be reported? I cannot find a report member button on the member profile pages. I usually just mind my own business, but when it comes to porno links on a website that is supposed to be family friendly, then I don't much care if those people get in trouble.

Ha! And immediately after posting this, a spammer is viewing my introductions page. This dude: http://www.bowlingboards.com/members...3-BerzaimAcign

There are no spam posts in the forums, spammers are banned and posts deleted.

Yes that's most likely a spammer bot, I banned it. There doesn't appear to be any porno links, the only link there is a broken link that doesn't go anywhere.

just so you know they weren't technically a member of the site, they hadn't provided email confirmation yet or been approved by the admin. yet so it couldn't make posts spam or other wise.

Yes the profile page does remain (theres probably thousands of them of banned users, users that were never approved etc), I can't delete those.

I know they weren't posting, just putting links in the profile. I also know that the one I pointed out was most likely just an ad.

However, I contacted Bowling Boards with the profiles of about a dozen other users, many of whom had vulgar material in their profiles. There are a lot of them.

Thank you for keeping these members from posting.

A few comments about this -

First, I would really spend the time looking through the members listing of this site - I just checked and there are over 6,000 profiles and many of them have never posted a thing. A better search may be to look at the active threads and discussions to see whom on this board is active.

Second, profiles with links and advertisements are going to be difficult to manage - simply put I can create a profile with no ads or vulgar activity and then wait a little bit and add those after the fact. If the expectation for this site is going to be that the moderators comb through all of these profiles looking for links and advertisements then we should all expect for this site to go behind a paywall to cover those related expenses.

Third, in regards to the links I believe it to be a pretty standard practice to not click on links that you don't know about. Remember that all users on this site are essentially under the guise of a profile name and we really don't know who is posting (that doesn't take into account profile hacking).

At this point with the internet the "family-friendly" tag is basically a moot point. Any type of site is virtually accessible at a click and no matter how persistent people/companies are about blocking sites and content the volume of new content is simply to great for any block to keep up with. Essentially we are reduced to safe browsing practices which are the responsibility of the user and not necessarily the site.

I gotta admit, all and all this is one of the cleanest forums I've ever seen speaking strictly of posts. 99.9% are clean posts true to what the forum is for. The banners on the other hand, I am pretty sure those are unique to the particular user as far as what you see. I believe they are cookie and history based on where else you go on the internet. I've seen some funky stuff on the top of the page here which I have no doubt appeared due to my kids using my laptop. I highly doubt Fortnite is paying BowlingBoards to advertise here. Words of advice....If you install a "Ad Block" of some sort in your browser you never see them again. At the very least, play it safe and NEVER click on them!

Now at any given time you can go to the "Quick Links" drop down and select "Who's Online" it will show that there are currently (XXX) amount of members online. Usually some crazy number in the low hundreds and all but the top ones are all named "Guest". All the "Guests" are bots of some sort. It will also show the "actual" members screen names who are really here which are listed first. Unless they chose to be invisible. That amount of screen names is usually under 20 these days. It shows they are online and what they are doing "Phonetek - Last activity (time) Location - Viewing Thread "Spammers".

I find it useful to not only see who's aound but most of those "Guests" are viewing posts (even though they aren't) but I like looking at that list of posts because something always catches my eye to read. Many are very old but also something I'd never search for to begin with so I'd miss it otherwise. Plus it auto refreshes after so many seconds, giving you a new list of posts to look at. Very handy to me.

I give kudos to Bowling boards on how well they monitor what goes on to keep the spammers out. Once in a while one slips by but for a very very short time and it's gone. Some people seem to be clever and post a few bowling related posts then start their tom foolery with their true intentions of being here and a better understanding of bowling isn't it. They too get caught. Then again, I shouldn't talk. My only intention for posting is so I can win a free bowling ball but SHHHH! nobody has caught on yet in nearly 1200 attempts. Wait....maybe they did because I haven't won yet?!?! LMAO Just kidding, that's the last thing I care about anymore is winning a bowling ball. If I want one I can get them for virtually nothing anyway working at a bowling center. Give them to those who can't.

Bottom line, this is a top notch forum, clean and easy to use interface, very well kept and with a very low number of minor annoyances. The vast majority of the members care very much about bowling and want to learn, educate or both. You can try look but you aren't going to find better than this.

Arsenal consists of mainly 15# Motiv balls, I have several now and they are the bomb! Too many to list and carry. Still have a couple Hammer balls and my AMF RPM Swirl (old reliable) & 25+yr old Linds worth a mention
Currently 535+ Rev Rate @ 19 MPH (This probably needs to be updated, I think I've toned each down a click or two these days. I'm letting the ball do more of the work as I get older.)

If I did have one complaint about this site it's the tiny "Inbox" but I've learned to work around it. Some PM's I like to save for reference for various reasons and it seems to quickly fill with one conversation that goes back and fourth several times making you have to do some housekeeping. If your inbox is full I don't think you get the message unless it's resent after you clean house. The work around is to make a quick Wordpad doc and save them on the hard drive if you need to or a Google doc. It's a minor annoyance and many other sites have much much bigger problems. I'm not complaining but feel it's worth a mention. It's something I can live with. I'd rather restate, instead of "complaint" lets call it a "quirk" instead. I'm sure the site has it's reasons for the limit which is likely server capacity.

When it comes to actual posts, I have to agree with you about the spam not getting through. I was talking about the members who join just to put links in their profiles and never post. Just go on the member list, start at A, and go down the list clicking on on the names that show no posts and have the little symbol that shows they included contact info. You'll find a massive amount of spam.

I only ever use the inbox when either Bowl1820 disciplines me or when I win a bowling ball.

    I prefer the second.

As mentioned to comb through all the members would be tough with there only being 2 mod plus the admin. When a spam post arises, you can report the post and the mods and admin are sent an email to view the post. I’m on my mobile like 99% of the time so I can’t delete it right away but if it’s something really bad I’ll get on a computer. Bowl1820 is usually pretty quick at removing spam content.
