I have personally never heard of the $2.50/game rate. My home house in Colorado was doing $1.00 game for league bowlers (pre-COVID) which they are now back to full price due to the heavy reduction in capacity. In Arizona when I lived there getting a discount even as a league bowler was not always available (and this is talking about open bowling times - not something like cosmic or special events), it was easy to see the cost around $4.50 to $5.00 per game.
