Well not as good tonight. Not bad but it was probably the hardest 596 I have ever bowled...lol. Consistency was pretty good early on but faded as the night went. Started out with the Uppercut. I got good strikes if I hit the pocket but not much miss room. My consistency was good so I stayed with it. I seemed to be inconsistent with my release more than anything. Game 3 switched to the Igniter and took a few frames to get it going. We won the first game and won total pins.

Another struggle. I was in bad shape over the weekend and could hardly walk or stand. Not sure what I did but my back was killing me. Went to the chiropractor yesterday. It didn't really bother me tonight so I'm not going to blame my bad bowling on that but just throwing it out there.

We had a bye tonight so have to be within 50 pins of our average to get the points. We won the 1st game by 4, lost the 2nd by 4, and won the 3rd by 107. Lanes were a little wet tonight and could not find the pocket and when I did I left 7 pins. Threw about 4 or 5 splits tonight too. In hindsight I think I needed to slow my speed a little more. Used the Uppercut 1st 2 games and switched to the Igniter near the end of game 2 but then about 1/2 way through game 3 went back to the Uppercut.

    Game 1: 173 (4 strikes, 3 spares, 3 opens-2 splits)

Weird night. Felt good and hit my mark almost every shot but really struggled with spares and overall scores. Still sore from 11 game tournament Sunday so altered my approach slightly and it actually felt and looked better.

    Game 1: 177 (4 strikes, 3 spares, 3 opens)

    Game 2: 196 (6 strikes, 2 spares, 3 opens-1 split)

It seems to me that if you’re hitting your mark and yet missing your spares there is something wrong with either where your target is or where you stand. Might even be both. Is it possible that your were mostly on target the first balls but not on the spare shots?
It may be that you are not trusting your ball on the second shot and over correcting. In other words the first ball missed left so you pull the spare shot and miss right.

I think it's the latter. I tend to try to 'guide' my spare shots and usually over shoot them when I do miss. 7 pins are almost always missed inside cause i think i 'pull' them to try to avoid the gutter. Seems like a chop alot of 4-7's too. either take out the 4 or the 7 but rarely get both. i use my spare ball for all 4, 6, 7 and any combo of those. pretty much everything else i use my strike ball. i don't usually miss single pins on the right side but struggle with the 3-10 and 3-6-10. besides the 7 pin my toughest seem to be the 3-10 and 2-7, which is understandable to miss those occasionally but i tend to chop the 3-5 alot too

Looking back at your score sheets for the past couple of months, the one thing that is consistent is your horrible spare shooting. Even on 2/21 when you shot 690, you had back-to-back missed single pin spares (7 pin and 6 pin) that kept you from shooting 700. Four questions: 1. what kind of spare ball do you use? 2. how do you shoot spares that involve the 1-2-3-5-8-9 pins? 3. How do you shoot single pins on the left side (7-4)? 4. How do you shoot single pins on the right side (6-10). That night when you missed the seven pin and the six pin back-to-back tells me that there is something fundamentally flawed in the system that you are using for spares. Looking over your score sheets it looks as though you could easily raised your average from 10 to 20 pins just by improving your spare shooting.

I agree Rob. Spares are killing me lately and yeah 10-20 pins would be a pretty easy gain if I fixed that.
I use my plastic T-Zone for the 4-6-7 or any combo of those. I had been using the spare ball for the 3-6-10 too but was missing more than I should so went back to the strike ball for those. I do pretty good with those. For those I stand at about the 22 board and throw over the 15-17 board depending on if the 6 pin is there. For the 7 pin I stand at about the 32 and throw over the 15-17 depending on if the 4 is there too. Either way I stand at the same spot with my feet but just move my target at the arrows. I think more than anything its my mechanics. I catch myself trying to 'aim' the ball or 'guide' it when I release on my spares. I use the same release for spares as I do for my strike but because I'm crossing heavy oil it goes pretty straight. 1-2-3-5-8-9 are always my strike ball. 2 and 5 pin I normally move my feet 1 board right and 9 pin I move my feet 1 board left. 8 pin I move 3 boards right. 3 pin I move 3 boards left. All of these are still using my strike target at the arrows. So I basically have 3 targets I use. My strike target, my 4-7 target, and my 6-10 target. Seems to work pretty good if I don't screw it up but lately that has been quite often...lol

I DEFINITELY gotta work on mine.

I remember in 2016 my coach telling me I should be over 80% on my single-pins at that point. Back then I think I was struggling in the 72-75% range.

Since then I've actually regressed and am now closer to 70%.

But, without coaching...you don't know 'why' you're missing them or 'why'' you're making them. You just have good nights and bad nights. If I can ever get back to a stable place in my life where I can prioritize bowling again...getting a coach to be part of the process is going to be part of that process. It's really been missing these last 5 years.

EDIT: When I say mechanics...I mean more mental. I unconsciously feel in my head that I need to guide the ball. After I let go I say to myself 'crap! did it again'

    1 pin: 0/0
    2 pin: 13/19 (68.4%)
    3 pin: 13/16 (81.2%)
    4 pin: 8/11 (72.7%)
    5 pin: 7/7
    6 pin: 16/24 (66.67%)
    7 pin: 41/67 (61%)
    8 pin: 8/10 (80%)
    9 pin: 6/7 (85.7%)
    10 pin: 24/33 (72.7%)
