It would be easier for people to commit to a 17 week league, it would be less expensive for people who normally struggle to afford a 32 week league, if you end up on a team that doesn't mesh well you aren't stuck together for 8 months, and if you love your team and want to stay together you all just join another 17 week league when the other one ends.

Instead of Fall and Summer leagues, it would be Fall session, Winter/Spring session, Summer session. Sure, prize funds would be half of what they normally are, but the league is half as long and some of that could be made up with lucky strike/50-50 ticket sales.
I remember when almost every Fall / Winter league ran 36 weeks with week 36 being the championship match and those teams not bowling for the big trophy getting a free night of bowling just for fun. My current league started out as a teachers league and followed the school system schedule so it has always had a shorter season than most leagues, 30 weeks this year.

I agree about long seasons being impractical. Seems like only seniors have the time to commit to 30+ weeks, and even then you have the snowbirds who disappear in December or January and return in March or April. Even for those of us who can bowl a long season by week 24 most of us have had enough, especially if it’s not a split season.

The sport league I bowled in tried a trimester season with 11 or 12 week sections, thinking that people would do at least two of the three. Unfortunately apart from the core group of about 16 who would bowl sport conditions 52 weeks a year, most bowlers only did one part and dropped out.

Funny story here. My wife has never bowled. Maybe 20 games in her life (she turned 52 today). So because of COVID and us losing team members and our league voting to open the league up to women she decided to join just to help out our team. About 2 weeks in she asked when the league was over. I told her about mid-May. She looked at me like I was crazy. She said she thought it ended around x-mas and never would have signed up if she knew it was 8 months...lol

I remember when leagues were 36 weeks. I like the current 30-week schedule, but I'm also a glutton for punishment.

Tough night. Accuracy wasn't great and just couldn't get anything going. Made a few moves but struggled to hit my target consistently. On top of that the other team just crushed it again tonight so that was frustrating. I'll talk about that in my other post.

    Game 1: 179 (4 strikes, 4 spares, 2 opens-2 splits)

    Game 2: 168 (4 strikes, 4 spares, 2 opens-1 split)

    Game 3: 179 (5 strikes, 2 spares, 3 opens)

    Series: 526

    Average: 175.33

    Running average: 192.73

    First ball average: 8.59

    Strikes: 40% (13/32)

    Spares: 58% (10/17)

    Single pin spares: 71% (5/7)

    Splits: 33% (1/3)

Modern bowling is not about accuracy,( as much as I might want to go back to when it was ), it’s about finding the right combination of ball, speed and direction that gives you the most room to miss your target and still hit the pocket. Watch what your ball does as it goes down all the way down the the lane and adjust something based on what you see. It’s not like you’re bowling the US Open or a PBA regional if you miss your target by half a board and you miss the headpin. You do not have time in a 3 game match to wait for an almost perfect shot to adjust from. You also don’t have time to to fix your delivery during a game. While I have learned the probable causes of some of my errors, if I’m consistently missing right I have to shift my target left.

Excellent advice and works everywhere. If only I could eliminate operator error.

Well I mentioned our center was broken into the other day....pretty sure they stole the oil too...lol. It was bone dry. I'm not a big hooker that hooks the whole lane but tonight I was standing up against the ball return and targeting 25 (standing about 13). Our one teammate with a 220 average pre-bowled today and rolled 154, 136 and 196. I wanted to use my Rhino but it was home. Weakest ball I had besides my spare ball was the Brunswick Igniter so used that the 2nd and 3rd games. 1st game I used the Uppercut hooking the whole lane. 2nd and 3rd games I tried going stratighter with a flat hand.
