No scores to report this week. The alley lost power during the storm Tuesday so Buddies Summer Doubles was cancelled. I was supposed to sub for a friend who took his son to VA for the Teen Masters, in Buddies Summer Challenge league tonight. The alley still doesn’t have power.

    Buddies Summer Doubles. 8/11/2020

    Set 1: 147, 170

    Set 2:?, ?

    Set 3:203, 198

You may be wondering why there is a third set. The league had a captains meeting between the 1st and 2nd sets to decide how to make up for last weeks cancellation due to the storm. The manager of the league suggested bowling an additional two sets next week. After some spirited discussion it was decided to split the make up games between this week and next. The question marks for set two - I didn't grab a copy of the recap sheet when we finished. Take my word for it, it was similar to set 1, lots of splits and stupid misses. You would have thought I had missed a couple months of bowling instead just a week watching my first two sets.

    Buddies Summer Challenge 8/13/2020

    Set 1: 141, 154

    Set 2: 168, 165

    Set 3: 170, 166

Subbed for a friend who had taken his son to VA for the Teen Masters Tournament last week. My first time back on a sport shot since March. Like the Tuesday doubles league, this one is making up last week’s cancellation by bowling an extra set this week and next. Over all I felt much sharper tonight than I did Tuesday. Made two out of two washouts and two out of three 3-10 splits.

    NEBA Tournament. 6 p.m. Saturday squad 8/15/2020
    Game 1: 160
    Game 2: 182
    Game 3. 194
    Game 4. 187
    Game 5. 197

The New England Bowlers Association has been running scratch bowling tournaments for over fifty years. The normal format is four bowlers to a pair with players moving to a new pair after each game. Because of Covid-19, bowlers were assigned four to a pair with an empty pair in-between each group. Three games were bowled on the initial lanes and then every one moved to the fresh pair to the right for the last two. When I've done these before the cut is usually between +5 and +20. After four games it was -18. I suspect that for tomorrow's squads the cut will be much higher.

    Buddies Summer Doubles 8/18/2020

    Set 1: 189, 203

    Set 2: 171, 170

    Set 3: 169, 203

First two sets would have been our best night of the summer, 34 out of a possible 39 points. Third set we got steamrollered the first game, won the second but lost wood as individuals and as a team.

Buddies Summer Doubles 8/25/20. Last Night, Double Position Round

    Set 1: 164, 175

    Set 2: 201, 183

First set we lucked out, bowling a team with a missing bowler. Despite my low scores I was shocked to find I had taken wood from my opponent by a pin, and we took a total of 17 points out of a possible 19. Second set my teammate's opponent's having a very rough night, so Tom completed his second sweep of the night. I bowled just well enough so we got all of our team points. All in all pretty good way to finish the season.

Not only that but one of my two 2019-2020 leagues actually got to come back and finish the season in July.
