    Default Wifes 2nd week bowling

Well prior to last week my wife had probably bowled maybe 30 games in her whole life. Since they opened our league to women she decided to bowl. She isn't a big fan of it but figured she'd give it a try. She is using an 8lb house ball for now. Ordered her a new 8lb Twist but it isn't in yet. Tried to get her into a 10 or 12 but she refused and she refused any help too. She said she is there for fun and whatever she bowls she bowls. So last week she had 87, 73, 86. She got a little better tonight. 123, 106, 77 so now her average is 92. Problem is max handicap is 85 so anything below about 136 hurts us but we are having fun.

She should have her new ball next week so maybe that will help too.

    lol. Good tip!

Picked up her new ball today. Her average after 2 weeks was 92. Today she rolled 105, 119, and 105 with it.She will be bowling league with it again Tuesday. I pre-bowled today cause I won't be there Tuesday but I'll post that in another thread. But picked up my replacement for the cracked Glam and 1/2 way through the 2nd game my one insert landed 1/2 way down the lane...lol. But left a ton of 7's with it.

I pre-bowled again as I am in Baytown, TX right now but wife and rest of team bowled the other night and won all 3. One teammate had his first ever 600 and it wasn't even close. He rolled a 202, 236, 225 (663). He is about a 170 average bowler and his wife is about 150 but she rolled 144, 186, 191 (521). My wife rolled a 102, 113, 95 (310). She bumped her average up 2 more pins. We are now in a 3 way tie for 2nd

Teammate just texted he pre-bowled today. 247, 218, 226 (691). He has only bowled one other week this season so far so his average is skewed but his average before today was 208. Last year I think he finished about 204 so that should help us tonight.

    Wife had a 112, 112, and 80 tonight. I had 164, 215, 218 (597).

Tonight we bowled a high average team but they have been struggling (or sandbagging?) all year and their averages are about 30 less than they were last year. Tonight they broke the season records for high handicap game and series. We beat our average all 3 games and got stomped. 1st game we beat our team average by 112 and still lost by 134.

Their averages and series were as follows:
    186 622
    213 689
    197 683
    188 655
    172 590

So yeah they crushed their averages tonight.

    Our team:
    204 691
    185 597
    186 662
    152 405
    97 304

    We were spotted 84 pins/game.

I had trouble finding the line in game 1. Game 2 picked up a little speed and started hitting the pocket. Uppercut was biting hard. Game 3 used the Igniter and it tamed down the reaction nicely.

Around here we call that "average management". It is becoming very prevalent on handicap leagues. The typically high average bowlers lay down when bowling lower average teams, turn it back on when they need to, and then turn it back off when not needed. Keeps their averages where they need to stay in contention and not spot other teams tons of pins.

Not certain they did it on purpose. The one guy that normally averages 220 was at about 188 before last night but he is very competitive and hates to lose. They were close to last place. Another guy on their team I could see maybe doing that. 3 of them have been bowling as good this year as he always has so he hasn't been sandbagging. So really just the 2 but their one guy averages about 172 and rolled 590ish. But we are running 3 thirds this year instead of 2 halves so maybe that changed their mentality?

Checked the standings. We were tied for 2nd but now tied for 4th so even though we went 0-7 last night we didn't drop that far. Next week we bowl the highest average team in the league against the PSO and the owner. Team is stacked but are beatable.

The team that beat us last night rolled this (scratch/handicap):
    Game 1: 1155/1327

    Game 2: 1059/1231

    Game 3: 1025/1197

5 man teams means game 1 the scratch team average was 231. Their scores that game were 178, 225, 237, 235, 280. Their team average going into last night was 956.

But I'm feeling more confident in my game. I now have the ability/confidence to make big moves if I need to and feeling more confident about when I need to make those moves. Game 1 I'm pretty sure if I had either picked up speed or moved in a couple of boards I would have had a much better game. Ball was just coming in too hot and I waited too long to make a change. Game 2 I had a good line but left a flat 10 so made a move right away instead of waiting 2 or 3 more frames like I usually do. That was the 8th frame of game 2. Picked up speed early in game 2 then hit a 4 bagger then left the 7. Moved in a couple of boards for fresh oil and started striking again.
