Default About ready to start up again...

It's been a while since I've been around... again. Last time I was here I believe is when Covid was just starting up and I was down with my shoulder being messed up. Well... obviously Covid is still a thing but my shoulder is just about ready to give bowling a try again. I did have surgery back in August and have been in Sports Physical Therapy. I've been determined to get back to normal! Every session of PT they shake their head at me because I push it to the limit plus a little bit more.

However, they can't argue with the results. I have 90%+ of my range of motion back and about same percentage of strength regained. Of course the bowling centers here in IL are still closed down but as soon as they aren't I'm going to hit the lanes and give this a try. I only have 2 PT sessions left and I'll be cut loose. I was at a peak of my skills when all this happened and killing it more than I ever was. I'm not willing to subscribe to the fact that my "peak" is behind me. I WILL get back where I was and better! I don't care that I'll be 50 years old in less than 5 months, it's a meaningless arbitrary number. My Orthopedic surgeon who did my surgery told me that he was shocked that he found ZERO arthritis anywhere in my shoulder. That tells me I'm good to go for quite a few years and turning 50 will mean squat. It may take a bit but I'll be zinging a buzz saw down the lanes at 19 MPH again before you know it. I'm far to determined and stubborn not to.

On a related note, soon as these restrictions in IL open up and all the bowling centers get the green light I've already had talks with the former bowling center that I worked at in IL. That was the one I quit to go down south. Funny thing is there is only two of the people I used to work with that are still there so it will be strange. They are offering me the General Manager position since the original one I worked for got fired and the one right now is someone from corporate and he hates it.

I'm not sure if I really want that position because it's paperwork heavy and I'd spend the majority of my day in an office. I like being out with the people, joking around, pouring drinks, socializing and enjoying myself. Pushing papers across a desk isn't my thing. I guess it all depends on how much $ they offer but I'd like to find a way to do both. Otherwise I'll just stick with being assistant manager, either way I have a job when it re-opens.

It will be nice to get back to all this again, I've missed my life as it was. I'm sure just about everyone who survived 2020 will echo that. I guess all I have to do now is wait for our numbers in IL to go down enough so the Gov can let us get back to it and hope they stay that way. Either way, if I go back there to work I'll still have keys to a bowling center. Opened or closed you can bet I'll hit the lanes. There are certain perks to being management. =)

Arsenal consists of mainly 15# Motiv balls, I have several now and they are the bomb! Too many to list and carry. Still have a couple Hammer balls and my AMF RPM Swirl (old reliable) & 25+yr old Linds worth a mention
Currently 535+ Rev Rate @ 19 MPH (This probably needs to be updated, I think I've toned each down a click or two these days. I'm letting the ball do more of the work as I get older.)

I'm MAKING IT work out for me. It looked pretty grim for a while given what the doc's initially told me. I wasn't really willing to settle for their pessimistic diagnosis. Bowling is the one thing in my life I was good at so way was I willing to let it be taken away from me. It has been a long road I won't lie. It took finding the right doctor that would actually LOOK at the MRI vs. reading the report which is exactly all the first jerk did do. He merely looked at the notes instead of the images. Since my appointments with him were phone appointments because of Covid, I couldn't be there to make him close his porn browser and look at the MRI images instead. He actually told me to go on WebMD to treat my symptoms. Believe that crap? Yeah... that's why we all go to "Specialists".... to be told to solve our problem with the internet. Pfft!

The second doctor was much better, one appointment (in person) and two weeks later surgery. BAM! DONE! No messing around. He looked at the MRI and said "I can fix that." I asked if I'd be able to bowl again and he said "Absolutely!" I said "Sign me up Doc, let's do this thing!" Like I said, I've done more in PT than they recommend and I exercise 3-4 times a day. They also say it's too much but hey, the results are speaking for themselves. (Cue the "Rocky" theme music) Last week I started swinging a bowling ball. I take an old 16 lb'er outside and toss it at the hill in my back yard. It rolls down, I grab it and toss it again. I started at 10 tosses a day and I was wiped out after that. I'm up to 30 tosses a day now in just a week. That's a bit more than a complete game of spares with a mark in the 10th so I'm happy.

My wife thinks I'm crazy. She seen me grab that ball last week and she was like "What do you think your doing with that?!" It was like "Um... nothing Hon, eh...just considering some lawn art" and I took it outside. Luckily she can't see what I'm doing on that side of the house. It feels pretty good to be honest. After 30 tosses it's pretty fatigued but, a few weeks of that I think I'll be up to triple digits. My biggest problem is reaching behind me. My back swing is about 20 degrees too low to be parallel but it's getting there. Reaching in my back pocket for my wallet is a bit of a challenge still and forget about scratching an itch in the center of my back with my right arm. It's not gonna happen yet. It's amazing the little things we take for granted. Before the surgery I couldn't even put a cup of coffee to my mouth and didn't have the strength to open a simple water bottle. I've come a long way and I'm not stopping until I go all the way. I WILL BE BACK!

Sorry Boatman, missed your comment. Yeah I know.... you go through withdrawals when I'm not around it seems. LOL I appreciate it. I might not be around often but never gone for good. I don't have a functional computer these days and reading and typing on my phone is a pain. I'm on my kids laptop right now but it's temporary. I only get my hands on it when it needs "Fixing"

Try using more spine rotation, to allow the ball to come up where you want it. Open your shoulders a bit.
